Gen Con X-wing

Apparently these ships are for a third faction, "Scum & Villainy".

So it appears that the ship on the VT-49's "Intimidation" card is the Mandalorian M3-A Scyk Interceptor from Wave 6. From Wookiepedia:

Although the Scyk barely provided more amenities to its pilot than a TIE/LN starfighter did, it had two strong points - it was cheap and its weapon mount was designed to handle nearly anything. Its standard equipment consisted of a weapon, an engine, a reactor, a capacitor and a weak shield generator. Its laser cannon could be easily swapped for an ion cannon, concussion missiles or a proton torpedo launcher. Large organizations used this versatility to create wings of starfighters with complementary weapon mixes, while individual pilots benefited by replacing or upgrading damaged weapons anywhere in the galaxy. Apart from that, it had very little room for modifications and additional equipment, and was not able to fit a booster or a flight computer in addition to its default equipment, which made its pilots rely on allied ships to plot a hyperspace jump.

Based on that description I'm going to guess that it's going to be a cheap, weak ship that can have many different kinds of upgrades. I also wouldn't be surprised if they added some keyword limitation to limit the ship to one or two upgrades instead of being able to stack a bunch of them.

I was a little nervous when I heard the announcement but FFG keeps on knocking it out of the park. The guy doing the modelling/conversion deserves props. I don't know his name but great job, man.

Last I knew, there's a team of people doing the CAD and sculpting work. They work hand-in-hand with LucasArts to ensure all of the details are accurate. Like you said, they're doing great work. Even though I may never use the Rebel Transport, I was blown away by the detail on the thing. There was a funny story about the design of the Falcon. When they looked over the source material, they noticed that the rear end of the ship had a significant difference between Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back. When they completed the first film, a lot of people thought it was going to be a bust, so they didn't keep a lot of the models and sets from the first film and had to rebuild them when they started filming Empire. In the course of that, they unknowingly changed the design on the Falcon, so FFG had to get LucasArts to tell them which version of the ship to use for the game.

They are generally pretty good. These look to be more detailed than previous releases (Black Sun logos and such), but I'm hopeful these are representative of the retail product.

I'm so torn. When these were first announced, I thought, "That's cool, but it doesn't really interest me, as I don't want to start a third faction." But after reading that article, I'm second-guessing myself.

God damn it.

I really love that they give you the ship tokens and movement dials for the HWK and Firespray so you don't have to rebuy models. Just that first set with the two Headhunters and Y-Wing and I'm over 100pts of Scum.
