Any good with 2 players?

It's the only way I've played it. I think it's a pretty solid 2-player game because there's just enough "multiplayer solitaire" (not always a bad thing IMO) to ensure that the game is very playable by 2. There's also still enough potential for (and actual) conflict that you can't just turn it into some sort of Agricola-like "tech-farming" game.

I still don't quite see how it's worth $75 (though it's not like I've never paid a hell of a lot more than that for 2-player games) but it's a good 2-player experience as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, very good with 2 players - interaction is direct and play proceeds reasonably quickly. Better with 3, I think but two is still better than four, at which point the downtime starts to eat the game alive.

Physically speaking it's not worth whatever price it is now, especially with printing errors. The publishers are simply trying to capitalize on the buzz around the game. As far as I'm aware they haven't even tried to justify the price with some excuse about the cost of printing multiple card decks, which suggests to me they're just price gouging.

TTA used to cost upwards of $70, but it's recently dropped significantly in price. You can find it online for between $40 and $50. I think FRED lifted a bunch of their price restrictions recently because BRASS has also had a similar price drop.

Excellent game. Definitely worth the price, especially now.

I have a friend that's pushing to play this -- to go straight to the deluxe rules. But he hasn't read the rules yet, and I don't think I want to wade into this thing without somebody doing some prep work first.

Such a great game. I'll echo that 2 is pretty good but three is where it's at.

And I'd suggest just jumping into the advanced game. It's not that hard, and while you'll likely fuck some little things up in that first play, it's a much better game.

It's really good with 2 players cuz it's a more reasonable playtime. i think it's perfect at 3 players though and way too long with 4.

3 is optimal but 2 is very good (great game to play with your wife). I traded mine away for 1960 after thinking it was too long a game.

Cool. My wife bought me airfare to go visit my brother for my birthday, so we're trying to figure out what epic games for 2 players we want to play. And I've got $50 burning a hole in my pocket.

Contenders include:
War of the Ring
Middle-Earth Quest
Through the Ages
Starcraft

Between the two of us we have:
Tide of Iron
Twilight Struggle
Arkham Horror
Marvel Heroes
Ghost Stories
The World Cup Game
And a bunch of others …

Twilight Struggle would be my first pick
War of the Ring would be my second. Twilight Struggle travels easily, War of the Ring does not.

I find Through the Ages to be highly overrated.

k, that's it. Let us know what you go with!

If you can find WOTR for $50, do that in a heartbeat. That's such a good game. If I had to rank the options above for epic brother battling:
WAR OF THE RING
TWILIGHT STRUGGLE
MARVEL HEROES
STARCRAFT (gotta use of the 2p maps someone on here invented, look around)
ARKHAM HORROR.
Everything else is 6th.

www.boardgamerevolution.com is a local store that sells games for close to their online prices, so I could get War of the Ring for $55.

I'm trying to figure out where you're finding Starcraft for $50... I don't even think you can buy the expansion for that.

I hear new Excel will have an in-program screen capture; whoever gets an early preorder of it will probably end up rolling in geek gold.
