Games You Bought Because of F:AT

Which games did you buy specifically because of a review or comment at F:AT? Did you enjoy those games?

1. Space Hulk - it's great
2. Twilight Imperium - it's great
3. Battlestar Galactica - it's very good
4. Pirate King - an amazing value, and a pretty good game
5. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (U.S.) - definitely fun
6. Space Hulk: Death Angel - best game that I've bought since F:AT started. The early review/remarks left me uninterested, but later remarks somehow clicked

Also, are there any Ameritrash games that you didn't buy because of remarks or reviews here at F:AT?

1. Castle Ravenloft - seems like an excessively random dungeon crawl with zero Ravenloft flavor
2. Dungeon Lords - didn't seem like AmeriTrash at all, just a spreadsheet Euro with a thin dungeon theme
3. Titan - even the fans made it sound like an overly long dice-fest
4. Horus Heresy - when I saw the unboxed components on display at the FFG Event Center, I was sure that I was going to buy this, but the reviews here really changed my mind.

There's really quite a few that I've looked into that I wouldn't have otherwise, but the ones I dropped coin on were:

Fortress: America
Axis and Allies
Memoir '44
Incursion
Alien Frontiers
Castle Ravenloft (so I wouldn't be an idiot)

Which games did you buy specifically because of a review or comment at F:AT? Did you enjoy those games?

1) Cosmic Encounter---played twice, wasn't a huge hit. Needs more time
2) Arkham Horror---one of my favorite games
3) Origins/American Megafauna---both seem decent but don't really have any non-solo plays. Origins stands out as better. Hard to get on the table so can't totally rate.

Actually procured LNoE from Sag in a math trade here, but had already been very interested in it.

Summonor's War was talked up enough here, that when someone posted a link to the crazy sale, I had to pull the trigger.

Avoided Runewars and the new Civ until I can play first.

A few, but it has been a mixed bag:
Dune - good but only played a couple of times in the last year since aquiring and won't again for a long time as those were miracles due to the 5-6 player requirement (and they have to be Doam players, I can manage 5 players reasonably often but not people willing to play Dune)
Thunder Road - a big disappointment. Just not enough game there.
Tales of the Arabian Nights - another disappointment. I keep feeling like there is a key aspect I don't get. A couple more plays before it hits the trade pile
Merchant of Venus - huge hit and in my top 3 most played games with Arkham Horror
Zombie State - huge hit and in my top 3 most played games with Arkham Horror
The World Cup Card Game - good but no-one is interested in playing
Nemo's War, Zulus on the Ramparts, Micro Mutants: Evolution, Legend of Robin Hood - Unplayed

Castle Ravenloft - I'll never trust opinions on here again.

Not yet, but what I have read about Earth Reborn and Resident Evil has put them on the 'buy at first opportunity' list.

IMPERIAL, actually. I wouldn't have really given it a look but some of you guys had talked about it in ways that I wasn't seeing elsewhere, now I'd rank it in my top ten.

Other than that, you're all wrong and you all have crap taste in games. I like pussified weiner games like RAVENLOFT.

That's funny, I skipped Castle Ravenloft because of (some) opinions here, including yours. It's important to not just look for positive or negative remarks, but to read between the lines a bit. People kept praising Ravenloft for factors that weren't as important to me, while the complaints about Ravenloft spoke directly to concerns that I had. When the Ravenloft boardgame was first announced, I was cautiously optimistic. But this game failed to deliver anything that remotely resembled my fond memories of the original rpg adventure. It would be like a cyberpunk boardgame without cybernetics or even hacking.

Incursion and Magical Athlete come to mind immediately.

Probably some more as well. Imperial and Warriors of God were definitely pushed over the edge of purchase by Thrower and Sagrilarius, respectively.

Bought:

Silverton
Frontline: D-Day
Fields of Fire
Forlorn: Hope
Prophecy
Tales of the Arabian Nights

A couple of these were tipped over from 'maybe' to 'buy'. There would be a ton more--Labyrinth and Nemo's War come immediately to mind--if not for the fact that I've more or less stopped buying new games.

I also picked up a ton of iTouch games, mostly on Grudunza's and Barnes' recommendations. And it's not quite because of F:AT, but I doubt I would have bought Runebound without Mr. Skeletor's solo rules.

Not bought:

Castle Ravenloft (for pretty much the same reason that Shellhead said)
Must be many others, but I can't think of what they are right now.
