Star Trek: Catan

This might have actually been a good idea if the premise was to have the Federation, Klingons, Romulans and Cardassians playing against each other, and then Q or the Ferengi as the robber, or something like that. But as it is, everyone plays as the Federation, in competition with each other... Wha??

That is the nerdiest thing I've seen this year. I have to have it.

I still want the Japan-only Rockman (Mega Man) Catan.

This could be the beginning of it though -- Simpson's Catan, Ohio State Catan . . . if licensed versions take hold this could turn Teuber into a very rich man.

Awesome. I agree it would have been more thematic to have different races, but then I guess they would have had to have 4 different sculpts for everything.

This is cool. The character cards with the special powers are a great start, but I imagine there will soon be fan-made expansions like "Green Orion Slave Girl," "Khaaaaann!," and "Evil Kirk." It's about time someone turned Catan into a Cosmic Encounter-inspired "special powers" game.

This will make a great gateway game for people to start getting into franchise sell-out Eurogames. After this, you'd be ready to play Star Wars Puerto Rico, Matrix Power Grid and Jurassic Park Caylus (I can't wait for the Provost to get outsmarted by those cunning velociraptors)

Ohio State Catan? Do you produce photos, autographs and gold pants and trade them for tatoos and cars?

Actually at PrezCon last year they had a Catan map with an Ohio State theme I think - I have a copy at home.

As far as licenses, was watching the Wire and it got me thinking..... that there is a game waiting to be made out of the show . Now one could design something original from the ground up of moderate complexity . Or , given Americans taste for series and the known quantity, one could use an existing game franchise :

Ticket to Grind :

Players pick up cards and try to form sets based on different kinds of drugs they are selling - crack, meth, heroin. Instead of plastic trains, plastic SUVs are used instead.

CarcaWire :

Players lay down tiles depicting streets and rowhouses . Meeples in the form of drug dealers are placed to occupy as large a connected string of buildings as possible ( think project housing ) or a la farming, inside as large a section of buildings encompassed by city streets. Some buildings have symbols inside to increase scoring to represent large segments of addicts. There are a select few tiles ( like chapels in Carcassone ) that represent Hampsterdam spaces where players can score a lot of points.

Settlers of the Wire :

Players trade commodity cards for drugs, money, vehicles . Tiles depict city blocks . Resources are used to build stash houses and drug dealing corners . And of course, the best part - roll a 7 and the player gets to place an Omar action figure next to another players territory to block it from being used.

AgricaWire :

A worker placement game where each round players place their ghetto meeple on an action space do things like import heroin or other types of drugs . Raw resources are then cut for sale , with Improvement cards representing increasing drug purity levels .

Slingers

Similar to the old AH Gangsters . Each player has Dealers, Muscle, and a Stash house . Each turn they roll a die and move the various characters, with a police marker and an Omar character controlled by everyone to hinder other players. Players can form alliances a la New Day Coop that allow them to spend less money on Muscle, but at an increased risk of Omar stealing from them

The Wire - incredible series - maybe the best ever.

I like the sound of CarcaWire. The start tile? Gotta start with that couch in the courtyard!

Youd also have to have a kickass Omar meeple who knocks out almost everybody.

Cash and Guns - The Wire edition, in which everyone stands around and waits for Pryzbylewski to accidentally shoot them. Eventually he does, then he quits the game to go play Go to the Head of the Class.
