Re:Trashdome - Talisman VS Runebound
The hell? I could've sworn I voted on this thing day one.
Fuckin' A.
Belated, meaningless vote for Runebound. I've come to appreciate Talisman's simple charms while playing with my son, but it don't hold nary a candle to the awesomeness of Runebound.
Talisman I'd play if I was looking to kill some time, or laugh it up with my son. If looking for a hot-damned REAL game, it's going to be Runebound.
And I say that as one who still only owns the base game, and is still pretty damned happy with it. The movement system is awesome and handles the vagaries of weather and terrain well. The combat is longer but also more detailed than "roll a number, hope it's higher." You've got weapons and armor that truly do all kinds of crazy shit other than "+1 Craft". You've got allies who have tons of great powers and actually fight alongside you, giving you the feel of a true adventuring party battling the odds. You've got monsters of all kinds, with various powers thanks to lots more room to detail them on the cards.
You even have a few "fetch and deliver" style quests to spice things up. Not to mention events that change the board in subtle ways and add even more flavor.
Dammit. This shouldn't have even been close. Talisman is good mindless fun, but Runebound is the real deal in terms of heavier gaming action. When did the Fort members get sandy vaginas and insist on shorter, and simpler? FOR SHAME, PEOPLE! FOR DAMNED SHAME!!!
