Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting on it. End your first post in this thread with the title of the game you're placing a bet on (i.e. voting for) so its clear to me when reading it later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. Counting expansions or not is entirely up to you just as playing with them or not is. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

Haven't played either, but anything that resembles the old ZX Spectrum game Chaos (from Julian Gollop of U.F.O fame) gets my interest by default.

Vote: Summoner's Wars

Vote: Summoner Wars

I've wanted to check Battleground out for a while, but Summoner Wars is great. Everything about it just feels crisp and clean. The rules are simple but the game is fast-paced and fun. I have the Guild Dwarves vs. Cave Goblins starts and both factions play really differently. The goblins play with swarm tactics, seeking to overwhelm in large numbers while the dwarves have to play a tactically defensive game. I would love to try Phoenix Elves vs. Tundra Orcs.

Also the quality of the art, graphic design, cards and token are all really nice for a first-time company/self-publisher. Yeah the map has a million creases in it and by the time you get all the folds worked out you fold it up and put it back in the box, but it's not a deal breaker.

Summoner Wars and Z-Man's Pocket Battles are two series that have me jazzed for the future of small AT games.

Vote: Summoner Wars

As a non-minis guy, Battleground is way too much minis for me. Summoner Wars however is the perfect blend of Magic and minis, and I think is lightning in a bottle.

Ahem... Vote: Summoner Wars.

Because I want to win!

Am I allowed to vote for my own game? I know on the other site, rating my own game would spawn geek rage, so I don't.

This is a tough one, but I'm going to vote: Battlegrounds: Fantasy Warfare.

Summoner Wars is a great game, but I'm waiting for more factions - this will probably move it higher on my personal list.

Battleground, on the other hand, has a dozen armies with immense tactical replay - it's sheer awesomeness in a box.

Summoner Wars is also awesomeness in a box, it's just a little less.

Not only can you vote for your own game, but bribery is a legitimate tactic.

Now, what's my vote worth to you, huh?

BG:FW is dumb. The movement system is dumb - it's supposed to be automated, but not really because there's just too many corner cases that the movement "AI" is bad at handling. Having unit abilities on the flip-side of the card is a little dumb - but it becomes incredibly dumb when you have free-form, non-grid movement. You're cheating if you pick up your card to read the flip-side, then put it back a quarter inch to the left. The ability designs are dumb too. +1 to hit against cavalry? Yeah that's really thrilling. (It is not actually thrilling) I couldn't trade this pile away fast enough.

In contrast, Summoner Wars is actually a good game.

Summoner War has my favorite unit, Smasher of the Tundra Orcs. Special Ability: Sluggish - When Smasher is attacked, he always gets hit. That's awesome. Luckily, he comes with 4 hit points.

My vote is Summoner War

You've convinced me kingput! I vote Summoner Wars purely because it has the special Ability: Sluggish!

(I haven't actually played either.)

Summoner Wars

The extra magic spells you can cast make the difference for me.
