The expansion to Exodus: Proxima Centauri launched today, so I got on it. The revised edition, which I've revised even further to take out all the fiddiliness, is my favorite of the post-TI3 space 4X crowd, even if it is only a 3X. With this launching I'll finally share what I've come up with since it really does benefit this great game. Expansion looks like it adds all the stuff I missed in the core game.

Thunderbirds

As soon as this goes live, I'm backing.
Matt Leacock with a theme of managing crisis around the globe...I fully expect some sort of Pandemic-like game which is perfectly fine with me. And it'll look and fit right in and at home next to my Gerry Anderson Supermarionation DVD library.

My preference would have been for a Stingray game, but I understand that THunderbirds has a more appealing license (not to mention the new reboot of the series...All CGI though...Bleh!)

5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Thunderbirds are go > Standby for action! / Anything could happen in the next half hour.

Lies!
Thunderbirds was a half hour too long. And it has the same issue that I have with Captain Scarlett and Joe 90 where it follows the exact same formula. Something bad happens / The protagonists do their "trick" (Thunderbird 1-5) or BIG RAT or "dies" / Everything is set right in the world.

If it weren't for Mitch (who makes me want to break things) I'd put Supercar above Thunderbirds!

Stingray on the other hand had some classic episodes. Dealing with hipsters, Moisture bomb causing singers, Crazy hallucination induced episodes. And Troy Tempest is the Don Draper of puppet shows.

I get that The Oatmeal is a popular comic and all, but holy fuck...$2 million in like an hour or two?!?!?!

I'm not a huge fan of his art, so not planning on backing this one, personally.

The chances of that being a good game are identical to the chances that I get don't get overlooked again in this year's NHL draft.

20 years ago, a game like that would be collecting dust in a bargain bin at a novelty gift shop. Nowadays, people throw money at it and it doesn't even exist on a shelf yet.

A friend and I were talking about that last night: they were looking for $10,000 and have already made 200 times that... they're going to have some logistical nightmares when it comes time to produce, ship, and deliver. I predict pitchforks and torches from the backers in a year.

(Also, I've never heard of Oatmeal. I'm apparently even more out of touch with Internet culture than I thought.)

The comic is often excellent, but you are 100% on the money, this is a half-ass card game concept and they bring in that kind of money. Crazy.
