I didn't realize it, but looking at those posters together it was indeed the best summer ever. The best of horror, sci-fi, and fantasy.

Sgt. Dave, Chapel, let's catch a few.

Hell yes! 1982 was a great summer for movies. I remember it well.

Also the summer of 1981 wasn't too shabby either.

How could they leave out Blade Runner?

Yeah, that was one hell of a summer in the movie theaters. I lied about my age so I could get in the laborers union and work for my dad's construction crew, earning the biggest paychecks of my life until a decade later. So I always had some spending money for the movies that year. We also saw some great slightly older stuff at the midnight movies, like Monty Python movies, Dawn of the Dead, and Song Remains the Same.

I understand that they're in the process of securing a 35mm print for Blade Runner. It's listed on their site and as 'TBA' in that trailer.

I'm likely getting suckered by Eye of the Tiger, but of these I think I'm most likely to see Rocky III. It's the one I've seen the least (probably been 20 years now since I saw it last), but always had fun when I did. I mean, Clubber Lang! Thunderlips!

Also, who can forget that '82 ended with Timerider: The Adventures of Lyle Swann! hahaha

One of my friends in Austin has a 16mm scope print of Blade Runner they could use, but none of the Drafthouses have 16mm capability anymore. The original one on Colorado could play just about anything (including 50-year-old dual-projector 3D, which was awesome). You'd think that with all the festivals they do at the South Lamar one, one auditorium would be able to play 16mm.

I still do love the Drafthouse, though. One of the many reasons that if we ever had to move out of Minnesota, it would probably be to Austin.

If Kevin Keegan had not been injured and therefore missed those sitters against Spain, The Summer of 82 could have been literally the greatest ever.
