I simply can't choose. I think Game of Thrones and Walking Dead are pretty great. But I have also really enjoyed West Wing and even 24 (not to mention parst of Lost).

Arg! I can't do it cap'n.

For me it's a toss up between Game of Thrones and Firefly

I was going to say The Wire because of the awesome personalities and multi-layered plot. But I think my fav has to be Seinfeld. I never tire of those episodes.

I'm a huge Buffy fan, so I'll probably go with that. In many ways The Wire is better - especially because of the conversations about real life each episode will start. But the thing about Buffy is that it's an ingenious take on the classical coming of age story. And while most of the personal stuff the characters deal with is just run of the mill stuff about growing up, setting it on a backdrop of a world that's litteraly about to end makes it all so much more poignant.

Honorable mention goes to Frasier. It's just so damn tight and funny, and the motor that is Daphne and Niles creates a dramaturgical constant the rest of the show benefits from. And episodes such as The Ski Lodge, Three Valentines, and the one about Oedipus are comedy gold.

Star Trek: The Next Generation

Seinfeld would be 2nd and Daily Show would be 3rd. Nothing comes close to TNG tho

Seinfeld and M.A.S.H are tied.

Seinfeld for making a timeless sitcom that has aged well. The clothes not so much, but the jokes are still as funny now as they were then.

M.A.S.H. for hitting all the proper notes for a "dramedy". The episode where Henry Blake goes home always brings a tear to my eye.

I'm going for Life on Mars the UK version.

This is a smart idea and, for someone bought up in 70's UK, it is super nostalgic right up to the guy eating Ski yoghurt for breakfast!! Acting is brilliant, story arc is smart and always keeps the audience guessing and it finished on a high note with the producers refusing to sell out and make 5 more seasons. Two seasons were enough to tell the story.

Mine is a tossup between Deadwood and Rome. Man, I wish they would have continued those two.

The Wire and The Simpsons neck and neck as my only A+ series. Star Trek TNG, and Mad Men as my only As.

If I could pluck out about a dozen episodes I would say Star Trek TOS. The great episodes are truly great, but the bad episodes are some of the worst crap on TV ever. If I can't edit, I'll go with The Twilight Zone.

My favorite comedy is and probably always will be The Simpsons. Its glory years are long gone, but there's just too much history for me to turn my back on it. I even tend to like the new stuff, warts and all. No comedy since then has escaped its touch, and a big reason I have the sense of humor I have is because of The Simpsons.

Favorite drama would have to be Lost. It's become fashionable to rag on this one, but it still did some things that no other show has ever really tried. And if it didn't tie up all the loose ends, it still managed to barrel forward and make one of the most relentlessly watchable TV shows ever. It's a messy series, filled with dead ends and red herrings, and I love that aspect. Nothing played as much with the idea of character POV, and nothing made me want to watch the next episode more. If the ending was a disappointment, it was mostly because I knew there was no more to discover.

My all-time fave at the time is Seinfeld, although it doesn't have the replayability for me that it has for others here. My favorite series that I will always enjoy watching again is Twin Peaks.

An easy pick for me: All in the Family.

It's uproariously funny, but also very thoughtful and poignant, both in the way it handles social and political subjects, and simple human drama.

The dynamic between Archie and Michael is one of the best inter-character relationships ever seen on TV. It perfectly depicts the feeling of helplessness and impotent outrage of those whose social attitudes were left behind during the cultural revolution of the 60s, and of the nagging insistence of imperfect human nature and harsh reality on asserting themselves in the face of liberal utopian social/political theories.

To the degree any TV show can be considered important, that one is. It's the kind of show we should see a lot more of today, but never will.
