Finally saw this movie. WOW. I haven't loved a movie this much for a while.

Every single part of this movie was a character, from the cast to the animals to the automiton, the sketches the watchtower, the movies,on and on. Truly fantastic.

Also, the dialogue was minimalistic, very good facial expressions from everyone. The motivations became clear quickly.

May I say I never really liked Sacha Baron Cohen, but this movie MAKES me respect him as an actor (although his character does remind me a lot of the man in the mask in Boardwalk Empire). All the actors were fantastic, and the girl in the movie (HitGirl) shows incredible range as an actress.

Not much to add, since I've been recommending it here every chance I got, but yes, I loved it too, especially the bowl-you-over 3D and pretty much every time you get to see a Melies movie or a making-of a Melies movie.

I didn't see it in 3-D but I thought it was boring as crap. Yeah, we get it. Movie making is magical and inspires the child inside all of us. NEXT!

Just saw this tonight. My thoughts about it are still forming so this is off the cuff.

I would say it is a BEAUTIFUL movie to look at. Visually I would say it's a masterpiece.

Martin Scorsese seems to have made a vast departure from his normal style. I applaud those creative types that, even after a long career, can do something new and different and do it well.

I did not see it in 3D. I cannot comment on that.

All that being said I thought it ran long. The soundtrack was a bit pretentious and intrusive. I think it called too much attention to itself and didn't give enough of an emotional boost to the scenes.

And the story, something didn't work for me, can't put my finger on it.

The 3D was stupendous. I hate 3D, but I made an exception for this one and it worked really well.

I loved that film, and will ignore any naysayers.

I liked it too, although I think I found it to be a little fluffier than most people here. I'm not generally a fan of Hollywood patting itself on the back, and Hugo practically dislocated its shoulder doing it. I guess the feeling I had was one of overwhelming pleasantness, nothing too challenging or too forgettable. But I'm not convinced it would have gotten as much praise if Scorcese hadn't been behind it.

Also, I should confess that I saw it in 2D, which is like seeing Wizard of Oz in black-and-white.

Really more sepia than true B&W. Not that it matters.
