Atlas Shrugged: Part I

First of all, nobody saw it. Second of all, it manages to make the philosophy of Ayn Rand even less palatable than the writing of Ayn Rand does which, as far as I'm concerned, is a great public service.

Michael Barnes wrote: Dellamorte Dellamore is an amazing picture. I saw it years before it came out in the US...I was heavily into trading cult movie VHS dubs and a trading partner sent it to me. I had no idea what it was but it blew me away. It's not really a zombie movie...it's more of an undead existential/Kafkan thing with some really bizarre humor and some brilliant filmmaking sort of several cuts above the usual Italo-exploitation fare. "Shouldn't have gone on the boy scout picnic" remains one of the funniest gags in horror. That and "Great, a new fad. Let's go!"

Yeah, I had a VHS dub of a Japanese laser disk copy of D.D. There was a great video store in DC when I was a kid called Video Vault that had all kinds of crazy shit. The staff were always quick with recommendations, and were never all smarmy and shitty like record store employees tend to be. This remains one of my all time faves. I've even got a D.D. tee shirt.

I really enjoyed The Church as well.

Shawshank Redemption is a move that I've never known anyone to not love. That would probably be my recommendation. This week anyway.

My favorite bit about this movie is that when the DVD shipped it was misprinted with the words “Ayn Rand’s timeless novel of courage and self-sacrifice comes to life…” The producers were aghast. Self sacrifice.

After some thought and trying to winnow it down from two to one, it would be Hal Hartley's Trust. Probably it means so much to me as I first saw it as an angsty teenager, thinking my life was shitty and everyone around me were self-centered weirdos, as it really appeals to that aesthetic. Still holds up after all these years, but only worth watching when you feel your life is going to hell.

Thus I leave it at one film, and would never think of mentioning a film from 2002, because I know I am not allowed to mention a type of god that is like a giant reptile, nor a similar robotic god like reptile, and ponder here why the two of them would ever face off in Tokyo.

Yeah, in case that wasn't clear, when I say "Blade Runner", I mean the cut without the narration which ends in the elevator. Still second to Rashomon, though.

One movie is a tough one.....It's probably not the best movie or the most famous but I'd have to go with the Final Countdown. IF nothing else so you can see a Tomcat chew up a Zero.

Holy cow. No kidding... I saw this thread title and specifically went on here to say that everyone has gotta see The Final Countdown. And lo and behold...
