Twilight Zone talk

Sort of an offshoot of the talk on the TV shows thread...

So yeah, Twilight Zone is a show I would consider if I had to pick a favorite TV show. So many episodes are pretty much perfect in both writing and actual execution. We've talked about tackling it as a podcast if we finish Star Trek, but we'd probably pick and choose since there's _so_ much.

I'm currently on break on my phone, but I wanted to get the ball rolling on this discussion. Favorite/least favorite episodes anyone? I'm sure it's a pretty popular pick, but "Time Enough At Last" is a top pick for me.

I wish the format would come back. Short stories produced for TV by various authors, directors, and up and coming actors. I understand most of the twilight zone was written by Rod but I think giving good but unheard of talent an outlet would be great. Sci Fy or however they spell it are missing the boat. I'd love to see HBO do it with a top of the line budget. It wouldn't even have to be sci fi or horror.

Anyway, favorite Twilight Zone? Off the top of my head... The zone with the doll that kills the mean dad, the one with the astronaught that becomes a god to the tiny people, and The Jar was pretty creepy.

As a kid, I grew up in Cold War era Germany in the mid-80's. We'd have a lot of evacuation drills and such and I was around the military quite a bit. WWIII or nuclear holocaust were real fears of mine.

So, for me, the creepiest episodes were from the 80's series. A Little Peace and Quiet and Shelter Skelter.

"To Serve Man" is the episode that I will always try and catch when the Twilight Zone marathons come on. That and "A Most Unusual Camera" are probably my favorites, though I try and always squeeze in a few hours of the show when the marathon hits.

Jeff brings up the 80's revival, which I think is really underrated. There are some gems in that one- I especially like "Wordplay" (the concept is terrifying to me) and "I of Newton", which is short but is brilliant. Just keep your eye on the demon's shirt.

I watched a lot of episodes during a marathon on cable many years ago. The show was legendary at that point, so I was inevitably disappointed by what I actually saw on the screen. Too many episodes were just a setup for a gimmick ending. I also didn't care for movies by that 1 Night Standyman director. Nice cinematography, but gimmick endings with no replay value.
