I downloaded Battle Academy last night. It is a pretty fun game. It is an actual wargame on the iPad.

Yeah I kind of forgot about that one since I don't have an iPad. :)

Um, yeah...about Battle Academy. Holy shit.

I've kind of been waiting for something like this- a full-on PC wargame on IOS. It's definitely a Panzer General-style pop wargame, but there isn't anything else designed with this level of depth, detail, and scope on IOS.

It really shows that it's a PC development first and foremost, but the IOS interface works well even though it's a little clunky in spots (double tapping is irritating to me for some reason).

There is TONS Of content. HOURS AND HOURS of campaigns, scenarios, and user-created content. And async multiplayer.

Absolutely worth $20, and to date I'd say it's the only IOS app actually worth $20. Because it's really just a full PC game on your tablet, not a compromised or scaled down one. If you've been wishing there was an ASL-quality wargame on IOS, here ya go. It's pretty accessible too, the tutorial stinks but most of it is pretty intuitive.

Whoa, there. I have Battle Academy, too, and I've been enjoying it. It does have some actual tactical depth, and the presentation is great. But ASL-level depth and quality? I think my hyperbole meter just broke. Battle Academy doesn't even reach Tides of Iron levels of intricacy, much less the detail level of a real tactical wargame.

Again, it's a good game. Twenty bucks well spent. But people should know what they are getting - Panzer General iOS with much smaller maps and a lot fewer units.

Hey, I said "quality", not depth or complexity!

If you took all of the manual work out of ASL- rules, administration, resolutions, etc.- it wouldn't be that much more complicated than Panzer General.

That said, I agree- it is much closer to Panzer General on the surface, maybe even less complex than it is without the persistent units and all of that.

Heheh, you're correct - please accept my apologies. You mentioned ASL in connection to an iOS game and my brain broke. And I'm not even an ASL player!

Also, units become persistent in certain compaigns at certain levels, apparently.

Someone mentioned this above, I think, but Playdek (of iOS ASCENSION fame) teamed up with GMT to deliver C&C ANCIENTS and C&C NAPOLEONICS for 2012 release. That should be some really good board gaming.

Also, lest we forget, not all iOS apps are games. I spent $30 on OMNIGraffle and it's been worth every penny.

Do what now? Your iPad does something other than play games, check email, and Web sites?

Did anybody get the new iPad? I changed my mind on it...it's not enough of an upgrade to fool with right now. Plus most of my IOS time has been Vita time lately.
