Clash of Cultures VASSAL game?

Hello Dudes and Dudettes,

To my immense pleasure, there is now a VASSAL module of Clash of Cultures. I have been swooning over the game last couple weeks and have not gotten a chance to play it as much as I would like. This is the perfect opportunity. This game should work *extremely* well over VASSAL since it's IGO-UGO for 3 actions. Only interactions during turns are, I believe, the event and combat cards occasionally. So exchange of files is also minimized.

The only thing that is missing is the text on the objective cards, in order to ensure you have the game.

If you want to play post here and then PM me. We'll get something going. Up to 4 players but I'd be glad to play any number. Again, this should be a very easy and short VASSAL game since it is a limited number of turns with discrete action sequences.

Suggested setup for the game:

-No ACTS die rolling or other card management. If you cheat on die rolls in this type of game, you're just a fucking piece of shit and only you will know it.
-Variable end to game option
-If there are a lot of first time players, no actions cards, no objectives.

Best way to play VASSAL games is to push through your turn. Then if someone has a cancel or reaction card or something, the player tells you afteward and you rewind to that point and play it through from there. If there's a place where another player can have input (play a combat card), you stop and e-mail everyone and let them know.

I may be interested in this, but I have no experience with VASSAL. How hard is it to pick up? I've played the game about half a dozen times in person.

In. Own it, but I've never been able to get it on the table.

You know I can operate teh VASSALz, and to Ufe, it's really easy. Just move the pieces around and send out the log, basically. Make sure to pick up the logfile at the right point, that's the only thing to be aware of.

VASSAL is quite easy. It is a virtual board, sometimes with a few automation features (almost none in this case).

First, you download the latest version of VASSAL.

www.vassalengine.org/

Then you get the module with Clash of Cultures

www.vassalengine.org/wiki/Module:Clash_of_Cultures

Then you're basically good to go. I will set up the game, then we will exchange logfiles where you see what the other people did in their move (e.g. moved pieces, drew and used cards, rolled dice, etc). As Not Sure said, the biggest thing is making sure you run through the log file of the person who went directly before you all the way so you are at the right game state, otherwise it can screw things up. So you run through the previous person's logfile until the end, then you hit "start logfile" and name it, run through all your moves for the turn, then you "close logfile" and send it along to the next player.

PM me here with your e-mail address and I'll send stuff along to you guys. I'll give it another 12 hours or so, otherwise we'll go forward with 3.

LJ did PM me earlier, so the 4 who are in the game are LJ, Ufe, and Notsure.

I encourage other people to post and then you guys can get a separate split off game going. Otherwise I'll post when we're done and I'll start a game with anyone left. I have a mental hangup about playing multiple versions of the same game at the same time, I have trouble with it. I'd just start 2 games myself if that weren't the case.

If there is a learning game, I would be interested. I have the game, but I don't know if it will get to the table.

Long shot, is anybody interested in scheduling a Clash of Cultures *live* VASSAL game this weekend on Friday or Saturday night? We can Skype or just type it out, I have a decent headset.
