Thunder Alley almost sold out

If you're on the fence, I'd jump on it before it's unavailable for 6+ months.

Just a heads-up, guys, that the distributors and stores are re-ordering Thunder Alley in really large volumes! Great news for sales, bad news for stock level. At this rate, we'll be out of stock within 6 weeks or so. We thought we printed at least a year's supply. Nice to have more sales than anticipated, but there is definitely a down side.

We'll reprint, but getting them printed and shipped during Christmas buying season is going to be problematic. So just letting you guys know, if you're marking this one for Christmas or our Fall sale, they're probably not going to last that long.

where were all those fuckers when we were begging people to get on the P500 trail and later kickstarter!

Well, you can probably score one cheap from Barnesy, despite it being one of his games of the year, its already on the trade pile!

Yeah, I'm seeing what it will lure out- not really pursuing a trade with it, but if someone offers something 15 years out of print and never coming back for it, I'll consider. I've played it a lot lately and I wouldn't mind waiting until the next printing to pick it up again. But I'd also be happy if it didn't move.

Why Disk Wars? You haven't even played with the expansions yet, right?

Same thing...I'll entertain offers.

I actually played a vampires vs. dwarves game last night, new units are pretty awesome. But the reality is that this game is not going to hold any value... It's one I would not be surprised to see blown out on clearance in the next year or so.

It's a shame Diskwars has gained so little traction. It's a great game and a great way to get a miniature feel without going through all the hassle of procuring, assembling and talk about painting. For the $100 or so I have in Diskwars, it equates to about $199k worth of GW minis.

Yeah, it really is a shame. The game I played last night just reinforced that. I think it's going to be on my GOTY short list, I absolutely love it. The new units play totally different and there's so much potential for more. We did a three regiment game, so I had the two Vampires and one Skaven. My friend took two dwarf regiments and the Lizardmen. There were a lot of new effects going on- poison, fear, reanimation (which was really, really cool), a dwarven statue unit that does nothing but empower.

It seems like the initial release did pretty well, but I think it's already tapering off. CSI putting the expansions on deep discount- and never dipping below 20+ in stock- right after the release kind of says a lot, without any kind of science or actual numbers behind it. They over-anticipted demand, and it could very well be that the core set is actually too much game. There's PLENTY there for the casual player, and since there doesn't seem to be any kind of tournament thing, meta, or organized play this sort of game is a short-sell proposition. I think we'll be seeing it super cheap shortly, just like the old Diskwars game.

But yeah, for the right offer, I'd trade the lot and pick it up again later.

I don't want to say I hope you're right, but I have no interest in this game (too many other games), but I do like the Warhammer world. I will certainly scoop up a copy if they go deep discount.

no worries, I would have been able to help you out with getting hold of San Marco but shipping over there is a bitch so I ended up giving it to a mate one mine on the cheap, hence I will get to play it a bit more without having to own it! Same mate bought my Thunder Alley so it's a good strategy in general to find a guy who will buy your shit but still wants to play with you!

also revisited Modern Art thanks to your recent rereview, and I agree, just a fucking tremendous game that works with all kinds of gamers, no gamers, whoever, The quirky art not only captures the theme but really adds to it as we force everyone to literally pretend to be art salesmen and bullshit their descriptions of the paintings, even the really ugly ones

Yeah, I LOVE taking games over to the Hellfire Club, playing them, and then saying "you guys want to buy this?" They have a lot of my ex-games, actually. Still get to play them, but flipped them and have extra space at home.

Glad you liked Modern Art! More folks need to get back to that...one of the most simple yet most effective designs the hobby has ever seen. I'd almost call it the most thematic game I've ever played, the way it ties everything together.

absolutely, and I think you just have to get away from this almost eurosnoot mindset that you can or should be calculating everything and trying to min/max and know what stuff is "worth". Not much point in the game if you are going to do that, it feels like a game with legs where you get to teach yourself some kind of intuitive feel for how it's working with experience.

Thunder Alley is getting a sequel for open wheel racing. Tracks look cool, look like a lot fewer lanes and less passing. Would that make Thunder Alley more or less fun?

Also, new track pack as well, including a dirt track (?).

I'm in the states for a few days but couldn't find this anywhere. I'll pick up the 2nd printing next year.

I'd like to crow a bit -- telling Horger that his mounted tracks will be too bulky when expansions come out, and his response was "no plans for additional tracks." Now there's four more tracks planned, plus an F-1 version with four tracks. This sucker is going to take up a foot or more on your shelf by this time next year if you go all-in.
