So FFG just gave their annual In Flight thingie at Gen Con. They announced a few things, but the big game was Star Wars: Imperial Assault. They describe the game as Descent 2.0 meets Star Wars.
Ugh, I dunno...the Star Wars thing makes me lower my guard, the Descent thing makes me put it back up. I do not have any desire to play a game anything like Descent any time soon. I'd rather this be something like the D&DAS games- easy to play, fun, not a lot of bullshit, not four hours per sit-down. Which does not match the Descent sell sheet at all. Guardedly pessimistic.
...my reaction is similar to Barnes. I'm not interested in this. Star Wars has never struck me as a universe that would have people clamoring for a hallway shooter. I could be totally wrong about that, though.
I can see where it would be worth a try from their perspective.
This could be cool, descent 2nd ed is a pretty good system. Star Wars has a bunch of good troop types and monsters to use, this won't feel as limited as the space combat games. Looking forward to it, if the OT main characters come in the base box I'm probably in.
What about X-wing? I hear rumor of a new faction... bounty hunters with three new ships and then an aces type pack to convert hwks or y wings or something.
