FFG announces - Imperial Assault

This is all theory regarding the license FFG has, but my guess is that these small packs may be what skirts the rpg/board/mini game restrictions on the license. Might also be why there's a Skirmish game play mode.

This doesn't come as a shock though, the preview materials mentions that the base game comes with the Hero and Villain pack for Luke and Vader. And I do like that they seem to be more beneficial in terms of adding content compared to the Lieutenant packs for Descent.

Still, I'm going to wait at least a few months to see what shakes out and what the line is going to look like. And also to see what the feedback on the game modes are.

I think it's both at its core. They need to release those small expansions for Skirmish mode to work. I wouldn't be surprised if they announced a Descent-like big box expansion close to launch.

The thing that sucks is that those figure packs come with missions. So, even though the Rebel Troopers are kind of worthless in the Descent-style game, you will have to buy them if you want their special included side-mission.

Think I will stick to just grabbing characters not in the base game.

Same. I have too many other games I am interested in to drop a large sum on another Star Wars game if it is not going to grab my group as much as Xwing did. Descent was a bit of a wash, Doom fared better but it is on the trading block, so I am cautiously optimistic about this one.

Based on what I am seeing from those small packs, they should retail about $1.99. Which is really kind of outrageous for about 25 cents worth of product.

I bet you they retail for 5 dollars.

Seriously? You're pulling out the "But there's so little raw materials in there...Why is it so expensive?" argument?

MSRPs are: $9.95, $12.95 or $19.95 depending on the pack.

Yall know they will be $9.95 up. Look at the Descent Lieutenant, MSRP was 10.95 for most of them.

Much less interested, the game is already $100 for what looks like less than you get in the descent box, now there's gosh darn single minis (Descent scale?) for $10? I'll wait to see what the rest of the line looks like, or if the community is interested in hacking it to work with SW minis (I have a ton), but I sense a disturbance in the force.

I'd imagine once the packs are out there will be scans that would allow you to drop in your SW Minis. I'd imagine they'd be usable...Maybe lightly off on scale.

Imperial Assault:
A learn to play rulebook, a rules reference, a campaign guide, and a skirmish guide
34 detailed plastic figures
59 double-sided map tiles
Eleven custom dice
Over 250 cards
Over 150 assorted tokens
The Luke Skywalker Ally Pack and the Darth Vader Villain Pack

Descent:
A rulebook and quest guide
Eight hero figures and 38 monster figures
Nine custom dice
Nearly 250 cards
48 Map tiles
Over 150 tokens

Components-wise it looks to be a wash...More here, less there. I'm too lazy to count up the unique sculpts per box though. The $20 difference can basically be looked at as the Luke and Darth Ally/Villain Pack addition. Assuming $9.95 MSRP, back those out and you're at Descent pricing.
