I just got to play it once and it was a bad session (8 players plus booze), I passed on it because I wasn't in Summer Miniatures Craze '16 five years ago...but now I want it. Anyone looking to divest themselves of it? Prefer unassembled, definitely want it unpainted. A couple of sellers have it for +/- $50 on BGG, but they aren't responding to sales for whatever reason. LMK.
That thing seemed to tank, sales wise - most shops it was gathering dust for a long time after it released til they marked it down. Shouldn't be too hard to find; the shipping is gonna be steep though.
Yeah, I think it shooed GW away from all in one, non-system, non-crossover games. All of the new ones have minis you can use in other games. They are even doing a full codex for the Deathwatch marines. And if you have Horus Heresy, you have like three playable SM groups, some HQs, a Dreadnaught and some other things you can use in 40k/30k.
It is great and it did bomb. There are quite a few copies over at TOS but the prices are perhaps a little optimistic. The game is basically something similar to the X-wing mechanics applied to the ship battle in a whirlpool at the end of the third Pirates of the Caribbean film.
Let's do it- you want store credit or cash? Combination? If you want store credit I'll give you like $75 plus whatever shipping is, subject to when I put things up for sale. I'll also give you right of first refusal!
I don't have much for direct trade right now- Thunderbolt-Apache Leader, Empires in America, Secret Weapons of the Third Reich, possibly 51st State Master Set (still deciding on it)...way too early to tell on Tyrants of the Underdark but I tend to hang on to D&D stuff.
I think in hindsight playing this game would be a lot of fun. I mean, at the time of release we had no idea the old world was going to be destroyed. I guess it was the last official gw game set in the old world. I have no idea at what point in the setting's timeline it'ssupposed to be in, but with all the craziness in that game I'd set it during the End Times.
Chaos is rendering the old world apart and these stubborn captains are going down with the planet. Battling as their world is being torn apart around them. Sounds epic now.
But, yeah, I'm sure gw has their eye on making the minis of their titles as cross compatible as possible. Like the new bb and these other games, expect everything now going on 32mm round bases and not out of place if they have either a bolter or great axe in hand.
Edit: also maybe it also failed at the time because, from what I can tell, it's old school gw. Lots of narrative through die rolls and maybe gamers werent so into that in 2010 or whenever.
Dreadfleet is great. It seemed to be the sort of thing the anti GW crowd had been crowing about for ages - a miniatures war game that didn't require any additional purchases at all. All the minis and scenery you'll ever need, even a playing surface and to top it all off it was all top quality stuff. Definitely one of the best produced games ever.
The game itself is just dumb fun in traditional Games Workshop style. It seemed to get slated heavily for the randomness in the game. There is a lot of randomness but certainly no more than a lot of the old much beloved GW classics.
Can anyone remind me what the different race/ships are? And this is sort of like Wings of War or something where you can play this with a group and each sailing one or two ships, correct?
Also, what issues of WD had Dreadfleet content? Was it rules/scenarios or just 'how to paint' and such?
damn you, Barnes! With BB, DB, and HS I'm supposed to be good with minis games. Now I'm looking at DF and DF...Dreadfleet...and Dark Future...again.
