As I packed away Star Trek: Ascendancy the other day I realized how many great titles GF 9 recently has released. Their games are far more interesting to me than almost all the other companies putting out games currently, they have this straightforward way of writing rules combined with depth from player interaction that resonates with what I look for in games. I think they deserve to be mentioned with the other titans of Ameritrash style designs, your FFG, GW, etc. That being said I don't quite have the body of work where they would be my choice if every non-(insert company of choice here) title disappeared off my shelf tomorrow.

For me its still FFG assuming my editions of Tigris and Samurai get to morph when I make the pick, GW is a close second, and GF9 brings home the bronze. I'm curious about folks choices outside of my top three. I'm sure AH, GMT, and such will make appearances based on preferences and I'd find it interesting to explore those trends. I can see where mini gamers are gonna go with GW #1 always, that's like shooting fish in a barrel. My GW choice is really on the strength of their board games alone, not the hobby aspect but that doesn't mean you need to take it away for your thoughts on the matter.

You can just say "Asmodee" and you won't have to leave anything out.

GF9 is probably the closest for me right now, followed by GMT (whose games I really like but that don't get played enough). GF9's work hasn't ossified (yet) into a house style to which everything must conform, as has happened with FFG, and they tend to try to match mechanics with theme with relatively light overhead. At least up to Ascendancy, they've been willing to take on quirky IP.

GW- because GW.

GMT- there is no other company in the business as consistently great as GMT- I have never been let down by a GMT game. I'm always interested in pretty much everything they do and if I can only have one publisher's games then I'd have more time to dig in to their stuff.

GF9 might be up there.

FFG, Asmodee, Z-Man, etc. re just too inconsistent.

Tough if I can have only one...

FFP purely for Shadows of Brimstone, which is my "lifestyle" game.

Runners up are Sierre Madre Games, especially for Neanderthal/Greenland, and GMT for the COIN games, Thunder Alley, Sekigahara, etc.

A year ago I would have said FFG. Since then, I've started taking a more minimalist approach to games I want to play, and I think GW alone could sustain me.

I'll shamelessly imitate MB, and say GMT. They have so many games that are so good. I wish they had more non-wargame titles, however, and had the range to be a little trashier at times.

I grew up on hex and counter games and still enjoy them, so Avalon Hill would get the nod. But I also grew up with GW games, Blood Bowl being one of my favorite titles.

Avalon Hill did publish Richtofen's War, a favorite flight game.

Verdict: Avalon Hill.

GMT publishes several of my favorite games:

- Combat Commander
- Commands & Colors (the two best versions)
- Great Battles of History
- COIN
- Dominant Species
- Numerous excellent CDGs

Plus the rest of the catalog I have not explored.

I need to keep RoboRally so I'm going with Wizards of the Coast. Which also gets me Lords of Waterdeep, the DDAS games, and Axis & Allies. If going with parent Hasbro I'd expand to Heroscape and others as well. Fuck Magic.

I would have said Asmodeé pre acquisition phase.

They had a lot of great title under their, then, modest parasol.

I am an FFG house with a few high quality titles from GaleForce9 and Ares (WotR and Age of Conan), my Top 10 games being filled out by only those companies - 7, 1 and 2 titles respectively although Star Trek: Ascendancy has not arrived here yet.

GMT, I think its harder to choose than ever on the wider boardgame market as it is so fractured these days.

GW, no question.

Let's look beyond their main minis games (40K/Warhammer/AoS)...games that you'll get a lifetime of play out of...you'll still end up with:

WFRP
Talisman
Fury of Dracula
DungeonQuest
Warrior Knights
Blood Bowl
Space Hulk
Heroquest

you could stop right there and have no less than 8 best in class titles, but lets grab some more out of their catalog...

BlockMania
Judge Dredd
Cosmic Encounter
Railway Rivals
WHQ flavors
Space Crusade
Necromunda
Dark Future
Chaos Marauders

and most importantly...
