Sell me on Lost Patrol

I am very interested in getting Lost Patrol. The unwinnable aspect of it is fascinating to me and sounds like a lot of fun. The short play time is also a big appeal...

but it's SEVENTY DOLLARS!!

So what's the deal? Is it worth it? Should I get this as a Christmas gift? Can I play it with my son who's only five but does play some of these games with me (Space Cadets, Shadows of Brimstone, Wiz War - with open hands and me reading for him). Sell me on it or tell me it's a stupid idea. It seems like it would be a great lunch hour game for work too.

It's a fantastic game that is completely one sided, which makes a Marine Scout victory that much more awesome. If I was still buying games, this would be at the top of my list. I used to own it (and still have the PnP files) but I'm not into games anymore as much as I was.

In my opinion, this is not worth 70$ as a boardgame. It is fun for a couple of 10-15 plays, but the sadistic difficulty quickly gets boring for both parties. And I wouldn't recommend playing it by the booklet rule, you need some house rules for the scouts to make it at least marginally possible to win (as written, the scouts cannot win - ever).

It might not be worth 70$ as miniatures either, because those are not the best models you can get from GW today. If you really like the concept, I'd proxy it. It is actually one of these games that would have benefited from having counters instead of minis, would make everything quicker.

I would only recommend it if: a) you're going to use the minis for something else, or b) you are learning to paint orc) if you are introducing kids into boardgaming and the kids like playing with "bad guys". In my case, it is b) and c) and we got maybe 10 games out of it.

I thought it was $60? But Vlad is correct that it's not worth it for the minis. Scouts are $25 and Stealers are $30.

I think that's the US price. JJ uses those strange "Canadidian Dollars", and the value of the "Frostback" seems to be permanently pegged at right around 92% of the US "Greenback." Everything seems to cost our northern neighbors just a little bit more....like it's a tax on the generally polite or something. ;-)
