Away Team P500 — Anyone in on this?

I’m eyeballing Away Team.

This is Butterfield's Voyage of the B.S.M. Pandora, and he’s in on the design. I have the original, but this is a much more deluxe release and looks interesting. It’s already cleared the bar; I think it’s about 2500 orders already. Solo or two-player only, which kinda sucks for my group.

The alternative is ISS Vanguard, but I don’t wanna spend that much and I don’t wanna store that much. I don’t want waves, don’t want expansions, don’t want “big”. It plays up to 4 which would work better. But it looks like a game I’ll feel obligated to play and that puts it on a different treadmill with my game group.

So I’m trying to decide if Away Team is a good pickup. $61 new and likely to ship soon. Is anyone in on this?

I p500'd it. As msample said, its the pedigree of designer and original that sells it. However, I expect to be playing it solo only.

I really really want it but the postage to Oz is usurious.

Our resident rich guy in the group is getting it so I'm hoping to play his copy.

Butterfield's most recent, Space Corp, was a bit of a dud for me. Here's hoping this is better.

I like SPACECORP, but admit bias as I was a playtester. I can see it not scratching an itch for some; the third era in particular can be slow/long for some tastes. Some are turned off by the randomness - my response is, isn't that part of exploration ?

In my mind it offers a more accessible / less tech focused alternative to HIGH FRONTIER. The expansion offers asymmetric corporations as well as stronger AI.

AWAY TEAM is designed with a solo focus in mind , which in todays market is def a draw.
