First of all, I'd like to say thanks for all the responses to my good eurogames query. I have since played and purchased some of them for repeated future playing. :)

Ok so here's my next gaming direction question, this time relating to AT games. I know there are some great AT games that take a long time to play. I have no problem with this whatsoever and own quite a number of them. I'm wondering what short playing AT games you like best? Please let me know so that I might search for and find them for their quick playing AT goodness. Modern, Classic, or Ancient AT; all AT eras are fine with me. :)

Nuclear War, except that it sometimes runs more than an hour.

Mall of Horror, except that it is possibly a hybrid and not true AT.

Star Wars Epic Duels, for sure. Even a six-player free-for-all should take under an hour, and it hits every AT checkmark except that the narrative is pretty shallow.

Apart from what's been mentioned here, and choosing only games I think are great:

Cosmic Encounter
Star Trek: The Enterprise4 Encounter
The Awful Green Things from Outer Space
Wiz-War
Hour of Glory (Bunkerstorm expansion is great as well, and only about 1/2 and hour)
War for Edadh (a mid-sized skirmish shouldn't take more than an hour)

Games I wouldn't recommend as highly, but are still fun if played with the right attitude:

Capes & Cowls: The Superhero Boardgame
Strange Synergy
Venus Needs Men!
HeroCard: Rise of the Shogun
Family Business
Before I Kill You, Mr. Bond
Zombie Town (might run a little longer than an hour, but not much)

You should get back into Dragon Dice. Dragon Dice rocks.

But there's also:
HeroCard Orc Wars
Lord of the Rings: Confrontation
Last Night on Earth

Cosmic Encounter and Wiz-War are two of my favorite games (obviously), but I've observed the playtimes being highly variable.

FFG CE seems to have contained this to some extent, but some defensive powers, Healer, and/or Shadow can really make the game stretch. Playing four bases can contain playtime, though.

Wiz-War is often over fast, but the more people you add, the more people can bash the leader. He tends to get bashed real good in our games. I have a large Wiz-War deck, though.

I'd say 60 minutes is probable for both, but don't go booking a flight after them.

Seconding Nexus Ops and Ogre.

Betrayal at House on the Hill?

A lot of the games mentioned actually run over 60 minutes fairly regularly, but not by much.

Not just Ogre: any of Metagaming Concepts Microgame series is worth a look.
Also the SPI series, The Creature That Ate Sheboygan, Demon, etc.

I'd really like to see some more info about this game. I remember thinking it sounded awesome, then forgot about it and then the company went under. Now I'm reminded of it and wonder how it plays.

I'd also suggest the fastest AT game that I still enjoy - MagBlast! Great game that 2 can play in 10 minutes TOPS. Maybe 15 tops with 3 or 4. There's player elimination, so it goes fast either way.

Also: Battle Ball

It plays like a variation of a CCG and a small miniatures game. You move your figures around some hex tiles, but when they fight you go into CCG mode. Each character and the orcs have their own deck. And there are cards for fighting, defending and magic (I think, it's been a while). Each character has a rating in each area, and when you play a card it stays on the table in a stack under that category until you clear it off. And you can't play more cards worth than your rating.

It's pretty fun, just hasn't gotten as much play. I should bust it out again.
