Latest surprise game for this fall by FFG. It is all Warhammery. While I don't care about the Warhammer minis game, I'm very, very into the Warhammer RPG. And Nurgle.
A: Barnes gets the review copy this time. Preferably early. Preferably way early.
B: The designer is Eric Lang. Big plus is that he did Call of Cthulhu. Also plus is that this looks less dry than Midgard, and has unit upgrades that vary between gods.
C: Massive huge plus is that you can play as Nurgle. I've noticed a serious lack of games with plague gods.
Posted as a link off the main FFG page. Sadly, alongside a pic of the minis for that poser Tzeentch.
I met Eric Lang once. He was in town for a while, working with Fantasy Flight on a game. We both playtested a game that Darrell Hardy was working on after Innsmouth Escape got published by Twilight Creations.
They actually announced this a couple of months ago, no surprise really.
We'll see how it goes. It definitely sounds like a much smaller game than the name suggests. It's hard to tell anything about it based on the description, but it's a major bummer that it's not some big DOAM game. 4 players, 45 playing pieces...that's about 10 pieces per player and some change.
My guess is that the game is probably more about customizing your dudes with different combos of powers. That has always been the chaos god schtick in the warhammer universe and considering the designer's background in ccgs it makes sense. Plus on top of the 45 minis, there are 175 tokens and 125 cards! I doubt you even control 10 guys, since with the odd number of pieces some of them are non-player pieces.
PLUS it is pretty common for GW to put the serious smackdown on other people making miniatures with their licenses. Anything big enough to be used for their money games would be a big problem for them.
Nurgle is really where it's at for some of my favorite amazing 40k custom stuff. Dudes go wild plaguing up tanks and terminators and such. I love the Lehman Russ' all done up with tentacles and filth spewing off.
Of the new games FFG has coming out, this is the only one that piqued my interest. Hope it's some good, but the Warhammer setting turns me off a little. I'd rather have it self contained, but whatever.
