Are you sure they are barbarians and not orcs?

Sounds like it. There are more extensive descriptions on the game's web page. It says they were a nomadic society that was corrupted by some evil magic or influence or something, so they're kind of mutated. Not orcs though.

Battlemist supposedly had humans, elves, undead, barbarians, dwarfs and orcs. So I have no doubt that we will see the latter two in an expansion. That's already expected. What would be awesome is if they came out with OTHER races too.

Yeah, you're right, it could be human barbarians. 1/2 of the races being human is kind of a letdown though.

There will be a bunch of other races/creatures in the form of brigands and wandering monsters which we will apparently either have to fight off or win over through diplomacy (beastmen? razorwings? ogres and trolls?).

Battlemist had dragons that you could recruit.

Don't humans and Orcs somewhat peacefully coexist in Terrinoth? I thought Beastmen were there mutual enemy or something.

Do humans peacefully exist on Earth? Have they or will they ever? Any reason's a good one to go to war. I suspect war with a different species is even easier to approve and gain support for.

Plus don't forget the diplomacy aspect of the game. We don't know what it does yet, but maybe we can open trade routes with other realms of the same alignment and/or neutral (barbarians and dwarfs were neutral in Battlemist).

They could, but a lot of the time they don't. Unless you ignore the genocide of some of the better liked species, like, cod, herring and certain whales
