Did I miss the announcement? I haven't seen much discussion about Defenders of the Realm, the upcoming game by Richard Launius (Arkham Horror).

I expect DotR is going to be a huge hit. The game delivers a lot of fun in a hour and half and the tension is palpable without being agonizing. There are plenty of "Oh Shit!" and "YES!!" moments in the game to give you that see-saw emotional roller coaster ride you feel in better games.

I don't want to be a complete cheerleader though. This isn't a game where you devise a master plan and slowly work toward the goal. There is not really player screwage though you can choose to be selfish or take one for the team. And the game can be chaotic. You can be on top an in control, then be completely hosed the next turn.

So while I think it will be very popular because of the wieght, length and accessiblity of the game, I don't presume it will be for everyone.

It sounds like a winner to me.
