I'm curious about The Swarm. It shows up in math trades and auctions all the time, and usually going for dirt cheap, but I've still never gone for it.

The Swarm wasn't a half bad. Kind of reminded me of a more sophisticated Sunken City(Talk about a lot euro). With a dash of point salad.

Michael Barnes wrote: Ah, it's been a topic of conversation. Are you blaming the ERP for the Obama presidency?
Campaign Manager 2008 is a dERP approved game, right? I mean, you can get it off Tanga for less than a McDonald's value meal, which I thought was chief amongst the numerous criteria.

Which games will you be convincing people to buy in 2024? I have some spare kickstarter money to invest.

I've brought in four games so far, two are reacquires of games I traded away Manhattan and Jambo. Then there's only another five or so that I'm looking to hunt down trades on.
EDIT: Oh...My...The remedy for the Common ERP Cold - Diskwar expansions are on sale for $14 each at CoolStuffInc. I've been waiting for the right sale to check out the few items I had sitting in my shopping cart and this may be it.

Damn Stoney, that is a NICE list of games right there. I'm going to award you an ERP Honor Badge, very impressed.
Hera & Zeus...man, I didn't like that one at all. Lots of folks loved it. Not me.
Maharaja, I need to try again. Another that I sniffed at in 2004, might have a better appreciation of it now. It was pretty well recieved, if I recall correctly.
Never got around to Perry Rhodan...it looked pretty cool.
The thing you start to realize about the "second tier Euros" is that's actually where a lot of the best stuff is. The things that are regarded as "first tier" tend to be the BGG crowd-pleasers that don't do crazy things, have odd themes or are dismissed as "family" games due to a lot of luck or whatever. Robert Martin, AT founding father, used to always say "you know when you see something is ranked in the sixes at BGG that it's probably a really good game". This is so very true with the more family-style Eurogames. Almost every ERP title I've brought in is like a 6.51, 6.92 or 6.03 whatever.
I played a solo of Journey to the Center of the Earth last night...it's kind of awesome but it has exactly that crazy things, odd themes, dismissed as family game business going on. The first part is going down through the mountain, using cards to move three mutually-controlled explorers. You have to have equipment to get through rocks/over pits and so forth and then again to dig up fossils. You need water stones to keep them preserved. Then you get on this little boat at the mushroom forest and cross the underground sea to the lost city, getting hit with ball lightning, losing fossils and watching sea monsters fight. Then it's a ride on an exploding volcano to get out. It's REALLY neat, but it does seem like it might be about 15 minutes too long- mainly because the first part isn't really 33% of the game, it's more like 60% and then the sea part is 30% and the volcano 10%.
It should not have been in a $50 big box. It should have been in little half-sized box. THere isn't really much to it. It does really bug me that the goose is on the box twice.

I'm going to chalk this up to anti-jingoism. Don't dismiss his Euro chops just because he's from California!
EDIT: These games are $10-$15 each, I should add.

I hold Court of the Medici up alongside Battleline and Cold War as the best short 2p gaming in my collection.bfkiller wrote: 21 pages in and I'm still the only person to mention Lords of Scotland and Court of the Medici? Poor, underappreciated Richard James...
