Well, that's...interesting. (Stonemaier Games recent post)

So in a recent post on Social Media, Jamie mentioned that he does NOT read reviews of his games. Wow, that is pretty...interesting. He does mention he hates when reviewers mention "Hype" (I guess that is in the links to the reviews since he doesn't read them.) So, a reviewers that just regurgitates the rules and says "I like it!" gets the same respect as someone who puts the effort into writing a true review, huh?

He wouldn't be the first nor the last. To be honest, if I were an artist I would think twice before reading reviews simply because it seems healthier. Reviews are not meant for game designers, anyways.

On a meaner note, he logically opposes people talking about hype since it's an obvious criticism of the purcharsing culture surrounding his games . But, in vindication, I also feel talking about "hype" or "nostalgia" is often a shallow criticism that is leveled when in lack of a better point. So yeah.

Yeah, cynically, his games have some of the biggest hype in the industry, conditioned by his intentional control of supply. So he may not want to talk about it but he's certainly instrumental in creating it.

I will say that the bit about slavishly following reviews of his own work/things he publishes... I get that. I think one of the biggest mistakes you can make as someon creative on the internet in 2020 is pay too much attention to criticism. The internet is corrosive in so many ways, and responding to it is imo counter productive especially if you're already successful.
