What are you WRITING?

Interesting, Ian. Despite being Danish I know absolutely nothing about the sagas (except that I think a game about them would be a lot of fun to make), but I hope to be educated.

Personally I've spent my summer writing Lovecraftian rhymes for kids. It started out as fun because I translated Where's My Shoggoth for my five year-old, but pretty soon I'm sending it to a publisher and hoping for the best.

New article this week on an 18th century satire which I've written about extensively in the past. I found it really difficult to distill an entire novel down to a few hundred words, so hopefully it gives a clear sense of it: Satire in the Underground World

I wrote a new Asian joke yesterday but more importantly, I wrote a great fake-commercial sketch for SNL. I think it's gold. I'm being told to submit it but I'm too embarassed.

Trying to get caught up on the backlog on my Obsidian Portal site. Between breaks and my lunch hour, I've been writing like a fiend. I'm two episodes behind and it doesn't help matters that I lost the session recordings due to me wiping my phone prior to getting it serviced.

Yes, I'm a stupid ass.

So, I'm going off of memory and straight up made up stuff. I'm also writing random scenes for upcoming events as they rattle in my noggin.

I just finished up YET ANOTHER ARTICLE on how the industry preview and review system skews positive, and why. This includes some science:

The long and short is that human nature is such that if you see early positive reviews and then many negative ones later, people will overlook the negatives because their mind was made up because of their initial perspective.

Probably won't publish it. I write these things way too often because it still pisses me off. I'm alone in it.

It's called haloing and it's right about pretty much every facet of life.

I tried making a case years ago on the positive skew of articles and reviews. I was basically saying that a 7/10 average is basically saying that a game is absolutely terrible and that it almost never happens. Usually reading a review that gives a soft 7 reads like a negative review more than anything.

I was making a case that you can only break up through the mediocrity if you average 9 or better. That 8's are a very VERY average game and that anything under that is terrible.

It can't be a general truism in that simple a form. What about the backlash where the default reaction to new commercials is "fucking pointless waste of bollocks". That's the nice point I've reached with many things in life, and games especially so. So all these positive "reviews" (LOL), blatant shilling and pointless farting on about shite that's about as original as Pete's fetish for leather cups gives me an immediate reaction to tell the "reviewer" (LOL) to go and fuck himself with a frozen turd. Which is called space docking. I later learned that "optionally" it can be done in a condom. So the more positive "reviews" (LOL) and previews (shills) I see, has the exact opposite effect. Cross it off as yet more bollocks being peddled to us by the same slags being paid off with free games and distributed by the autistic nonce hall monitors scurrying round in charge of certain other boardgame sites. That is all. Oh, you look good in that blue T shirt Barney. PS shitty to hear about the wife thing storm, but you'll come out the other end at some point and make something work.
