RIP Rik Mayall was created by ThirstyMan
I am sorry to report the death of Rik Mayall.

You may have known him as Lord/Captain Flashheart in Black Adder or Rick in The Young Ones. Either way he was a talented writer and comedian and one of the founders of The Comic Strip at the fledgling beginning of Alternative Comedy in the UK, in the 80s.

Anarchic and irreverent he will be missed.

One of the great moments of British television-

"I'm writing a letter to Echo and the Bunnymen. Dear Echo..."

Truly the People's Poet.

I loved Comic Strip and The Young Ones and Rik was my favorite. Back in the mid 1980s, MTV used to show both of those and that was really kind of my first exposure to English comedy beyond Monty Python. I LOVE the Young Ones, it still stands as one of my favorite shows of all time. I loved how keyed in it was at the time with punk and new wave. I loved Bottom too. And Drop Dead Fred.

Definitely a national treasure, gone too soon.
