Let the Right One In

The wife and I saw this movie Friday night and would recommend it if you like vampire movies. The story is set in Stockholm (with subtitles) in the late 70s or early 80s (never explicit in the movie, they just mention "Chairman Breshnev") and concerns a "coming of age"/"adolescent love story" between a human boy (Oskar) and an adolescent vampire (Eli).

There is a good bit of vampire lore woven into the story, but much of the movie is really about rejection, loyalty, and pre-teen love. There are parts of it that are a little slow, but overall an enjoyable horror movie that is more reminiscent of classic horror movies (e.g., The Changeling with George C. Scott) than more modern fare.

I have this on my Netflix queue. I've been looking forward to seeing it.

Last night we watched Doomsday. There were some bits of entertainment but overall it was pretty *meh*.

I would have left the theater if they had --- they burst into a ball of flame like a proper vampire should.
