Stay FAR AWAY from the FAR CRY 2 video game

Not only is it a mediocre GTA wannabe but once you reach about 50% completion, some of your save files fail and after 66% they stop working all together.

Ubisoft has been aware of this problem since Dec 08 and to date has done nothing to solve this bug.

That's fucking unacceptable. I've been growing less fond of video games for the past few years and this may be the nail to end our 30 year love affair.

There has been nothing that has excited me since Resident Evil 4 for the Gamecube. I'm currently playing RE5 at a neighbour's place and even that is ho-hum for me. I think I'm done.

After i finish GTA 4 (which I've been dragging my heels to finish) my 360 will be going up on craigslist.

That is complete bullshit, I agree. I think this is only a problem with the xbox, though. My PC copy runs great.

As for the gameplay, I totally disagree. I've been having a blast with it for the past week or so. I'm not suggesting it's the deepest game I've ever played, but any game where you can run over a zebra in your Jeep Wrangler is A-OK in my book. Certainly I think it's a pretty good sandbox game, well worth the $15 I paid for it (man, I love Steam sales).

Bullwinkle,
How much of the game have you completed? I was under the impression this bug is across the board.

ugh, i agree...the thing that finally made me quit Farcry2 was when one of my "allies" saved me from death, then wouldn't leave the area. for anything. I would kill everyone, leave...only to turn the game back on to the sound of this chick gasping her dying breath, from across the map. go back, revive her, kill bad guys, leave....repeat until she finally died.

and i ran into the savefile bug

The whole thing, once through. I'm on a second playthrough, but I'm only at 23% or so, I think.

I looked it up, and it appears you are right; this seems to be a cross-platform issue. Hmm. Maybe I was just lucky, although the majority of complaints do seem to be coming from xbox users (which may just be a reflection of proportion of sales, I don't know). I've read a few things about it now, and people are making all kinds of suggestions about what the problem is. At any rate, Ubisoft is now aware of what's causing the problem and are reportedly rolling out the fix in the next patch.

BUT...they have known how to fix the problem since the beginning of March (at least). So, either way, it's unacceptable that they didn't throw out a patch for this immediately.

Dude, you're shitting on Resident Evil 5. Not cool.

With ya on FarCry 2 though.

Not shitting on it, but I've been there done that. I'm an original RE fan, I've played through all the "number" games, Code Veronica and part of Gun Survivor (shite!) and loved every minute of it.

With the exception of the co-op mode, there is nothing here that I hadn't experienced in RE 4, first level village chaos, check, mysterious woman who interferes with your plans, check, croc in water, check, giant with vulnerable worm thingy...sigh...dude i could go on.

I was an apologist for the infamous RE movement, but that was over ten years ago. You can't move and shoot at the same time? WTF? Sorry that's just crap.

I guess I'm between the two camps on this one. I found it to be great...right up until it stopped working. It suddenly had that Electronic "Don't Ever Buy Our Games Until the First 100MB Patch Lands" Arts feel to it, which was the kiss of death.

A free copy of the game came with my video card (which is rather fancy) but I have yet to try it. The only thing I really liked about GTA was getting in cabs and picking up fares. I sorta fail at the homicidal killing spree urge.

The only game I am really, really, really looking forward to is the Sims 3. I like my dollhouses, damnit. Dysfunctional dolls, but dolls nonetheless.

It was supposed to be out in Feb, and got bumped in June. :(

My wife enjoys the "dollhouse" aspect of Sims as well. It kinda creeped me out though when I noticed that her character, that looked like her married

It just occured to me that playing GTA is the equivalent of playing with GI Joes (the full sized, bearded, scarred, 1000-point articulated version from the 60s & 70s) except I don't have to make shooting noises and I can have sex (with my girlfriends not prostitutes, I have standards). The "sandbox" feel of GTA is like a massive adventure set (or dollhouse).

Ha! I can just imagine you playing it as a taxi sim game as well.

Then don't bother. FC2 is almost entirely about killing things. I suppose you could just go hunting for the diamond cases, but even then you'll have to kill everything in your way.
