Casting for HBO's " A Game of Thrones" has begun.

It's only the pilot, but I'm anxious to see how it will turn out.

I'm disappointed at the timing, because this will be a big distraction to Martin, who is already having trouble focusing on his writing. What will they do when the series catches up with the books, and Martin is facing writers block again? Those actors won't be getting any younger, especially the kids.

The cool and really challenging thing about it is some of the really unique kinds of actors you need to cast something like this. A little person main character. Some giants. A variety of young kid actors. A ton of other bizarre and unusual niche roles.

This will either be the best or worst thing ever. I am about 20x more excited by this adaptation than I was by LOTR....

I think that it will be both. Martin has good experience working in television, so he has a good chance of making this work. However, any significant involvement on his part will come at the expense of the last three books in the series, and he really isn't getting any younger.

Point well taken.... but then again, I wasn't that fond of his last book in the series, so maybe getting involved with this will spark something in him... Lord knows that whatever he has been doing the past few years hasn't been working...
