The 99 - comic

Anybody heared of this comic, the 99 ?

Do you think it is as good as a comic?

Although it is firmly grounded in Middle Eastern folklore and myth, it apparently is not 'islamic'.
Does that make it too politically correct?

Apparently they are now also linking up with the Justice League .

Neat idea, but it sounds very grounded in Islam, since the 99 heroes are based on the 99 attributes of Allah described in the Qur'an. And that may prove problematic, since some islamic traditions prohibit the depiction of Allah or even human beings in artwork.

I don't think this comic will sweep the Taliban heartland anyway, and those are the ones most likely to object to depictions of human beings.

Apparently it is ok with the Middle Eastern mainstream (I can't say whether it is also picking up in African, and far eastern (predominantly) muslim countries).

I'm not religious, but I can only praise the ethics taught in religious texts such as the bible. I think this comic is great, since apparently even conservative parents allow their children to read them, giving the kids the chance to create their own understanding of the Qur'an different to what might be presented to them by fanatics.
