I tried playing RE4 on my PS2, but I could never get the fucking controller to do the instant 180 turn. I'm not sure how important that would have been towards getting through the game, but it annoyed me so much early on that I put the game away and haven't touched it since. Its bad enough I can't move and shoot like a good FPS, but not being able to even turn around effectively was unacceptable.
I beat 4 on the wiiwii and don't think I was even aware you could do such a move.

Being able to turn around fast and run is pretty important. It's very easy in RE5... I'm not sure but I think it was the same in 4. Maybe your contoller is too worn.
I actually like the shooting style of 4&5 a lot. It's pretty satisfying gameplay having to take a slow aim and pray you hit in time before you get overcome. Shoot, move, shoot is a fun routine. I'm glad it's NOT like an FPS in that regard. Isn't there isn't enough of that samey shit floating around? Running backwards and shooting is pretty dumb. Not that I don't like FPS but still...

Try this in real life some time, and tell me how often you hit your target.

You only need this move when you're attacked from several sides. If you can avoid such situations, you won't need the move.Mad Dog wrote:

I played through RE4 three or four times. It's my brother's game and I played it for him; he's not a good video gamer. What really sucks is that they cut out several features in the German edition, such as the arena fight and another bonus level. I blame the Nazis for that.

FPS's are video games not real life simulators.

So...um...you don't go around breaking open crates looking for medical kits spinning in the air?
I bet that happened to Hunter S. Thompson from time to time.

So, because video games have fantastic settings, or completely game-y elements, they shouldn't incorporate realism if it adds tension to the game?
I'm all for survival horror games having more realism to add tension, but I personally play a lot more FPS's. I guess its not so much the inability to move and shoot that bothers me. Its having to adapt to moving and aiming with the same stick. In an FPS you use one stick to move and the other to aim. So when I play RE I'm constantly trying to move when I'm aiming and trying to aim while moving. It doesn't make the game unplayable by any means, but it is a bit frustrating because its not what I'm used to.

I think RE is _great horror_, not just a great video game. I think it's probably the best directed video game I've ever played. And I think it's a better example of the horror genre than most horror films of the past couple of decades.
A ha ha ha ha
(On a serious note, I know you're talking about the game itself, but I just couldn't let that pass.)
