Euroquest is for pussies. I'm going to Ellis Con. It's sponsored by the Ellis Tech Simulation Club, and held in a hanger. None of this cushie, euro hotel crap. It's twelve-hours of military, political, fantasy board, miniature & card gaming. It's all Ameritrash, all the time. These boys don't even know Euros exist. If you want to really impress them, tell them you own a 2nd edition of Talisman and watch their jaws drop and their eyes sparkle. If some old old fart pulls out a copy of Agricola, the Tech boys are likely to look at it with bewilderment and possibly ask if it's a children's game.

Any other F:ATies in the area planning on attending?

Please - can threads like this be hidden from us non-US people who get very depressed reading them.

There is a con on this weekend in the UK - Midcon, which apparently will be fill of middleage, balding and fat males playing very boring euros.

Hear hear! We need an "Awesome Gaming Conventions, In The States, I'll Never Be Able To Attend" plonk button.

Uba, make it so.

Cool. I should go just to show off my 2nd Ed. Talisman with all the expansions plus the extras from that one issue of White Dwarf that I cut and pasted onto index cards.

Because that's just the definition of awesome.

Really though, I've got plans already. :(

The announcement says "This year park in the right rear." Are you sure you're going to be welcome at this event Uba?

I might try to make it up. I have my PRAXIS II test at 7:30 that morning (ugh) plus with the new house having, I might have a ton of other things that win out over fun.

It's bad enough knowing what type of con we are missing, but when I read this I just broke down:

The trip to see two World War II US bombers, the B-17 Flying Fortress and the B-24 Liberator, as well as a P-51 Mustang fighter was a success. Besides a walk-through of these four-engined bombers, we watched the B-17 warm-up and take off and then had a fast-food lunch.

... and NO you fat bastards, I am not talking about the fast food lunch.

Well, at least I got to play Fortress America last night.

We missed that touring show, but the New England Air Museum is about 20 minutes from us. It's got several WWII planes. The Spawn made one of the tour guides there cry, by asking about the WASPs. Turned out the tour guide had been a WASP and thought they had been forgotten. So she let the Spawn climb on one of the planes that were of the type she had piloted. Small museums are very cool.

Thanks Uba, twist that knife a little deeper ...

But you get to live in one of those perfectly darling little towns like they show on those BBC shows on PBS, where everyone rides bicycles and carries their groceries in wicker baskets. And your Spawn never says "Holy crap" in front of the grandparents, but rather says something proper and appropriate like, "Oh, my heavens." ;)
