Trashdome 2 - Well Of Darkness VS Altar Of Despair

WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting on it. End your first post in this thread with the title of the game you're placing a bet on (i.e. voting for) so its clear to me when reading it later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Descent: The Well Of Darkness expansion

VS

Descent: The Altar Of Despair expansion

Tough one - Well is all around solid while Altar has some high highs and some low lows. In particular, I feel that Altar's quest book is far superior to Well's. The new creatures in Altar are a mixed bag. The corrupted glyphs are good in theory but can be quest-breakingly bad in execution as written.

I'm still going to go with Altar though because the quality of the quests compared to the rather dull quest book from Well pushes it over the top.

Vote: Well of Darkness

Well of Darkness has more Store items which really give the heroes a lot more flexibility in their starting outfits. It also has better traps, better heroes and better monsters.

I haven't played through all of the quests in either, so I can't judge there.

So far we have a tie. I guess not many people have played either of these expansions.

I can make another vote if that will make you feel better?

vote: Well of Darkness, for the reasons that metalface mentioned with better monsters being the main one.

Got most of my Descent in one big bunch -- base game up until RtL. no idea what comes in which box. Which has the troll? I'll vote for that one. The only monster that consistently TPK in our games.

The treasures really helped even out the distribution between magic/melee/ranged, and it's got Ferroxes. Every overlord loves making guys bleed to death.

The new hero choices are cool too, especially since some of them were pictured on the JitD box! (Laurel, Hawthorne, and Runemaster Thorn).

The new quests might not be quite as good as the ones in AoD, but that's really all it has going for it.
