This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;
I like both a lot, but like that Dominion is much easier to teach my friends and relatives who don't own games themselves. RftG might as well be called "James Wins."
I think that Dominion will have a much longer lasting impression on games than RftG, and Prosperity was the only game-related thing I bought (pre-ordered) at GenCon aside from my event tickets for Heroscape and Summoner Wars.
Growing up on a lot of Pinochle, BS, and M:TG, I've seemed to always enjoy card games.*
*One of my friends still wishes that Fifth Age didn't have an asinine magic system, at least the way we played it.
Jexik, are you referring to the dreadful Dragonlance: Fifth Age RPG boxed set? I never ended up playing it. I loved the system but I agree, making up spells as you go along is a terrible idea.
The number of Dominion clones being released is amazing. I wonder if deck-building will be as widespread as auctions and worker placement in a year or two.
They say Dominion is good for MTG junkies, and that describes who I was a few years ago accurately.
On the other hand, RftG has been compared a lot to Glory to Rome, and I looked that up on BGG earlier this morning, and it gave me a headache just looking at the cards. I heard that RftG is even worse with all the symbols and what not.
I downloaded the RftG AI program a while back and am pretty burned out on it at this point. Neither is exactly a desert island game, but forced to choose I would pick:
