Trashdome - Mare Nostrum VS Cyclades

WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting on it. End your first post in this thread with the title of the game you're placing a bet on (i.e. voting for) so its clear to me when reading it later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. Counting expansions or not is entirely up to you just as playing with them or not is. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Never played it, but its got to be better than fucking Cyclades. A game where I have to win an auction to fight someone.

Due to general chaos at the con I was at yesterday, I missed my chance to play Cyclades. But even if it is excellent, I can't imagine it being as good as Mare Nostrum with 6 players and the mythology expansion. MN is easy to learn, difficult to win and always fun to play. I love the interaction of conquest, building and trading in MN, and how everything crescendos as more creatures and heroes come into play and victory is within reach of a few civilizations at the same time. The 2.5-3.5 hour playing time is perfect for me (long enough to sink into the game, but short enough to make scheduling easy).

Mare Nostrum....I found Cyclades to be extremely disappointing and boring.

Vote: Cyclades. It rules. Not sure if it's really my top game of 2010 anymore, but it's up there.

I like Cyclades, but I just did not care for the cannot bid on same god in auction phase mechanic.

I liked Cyclades the first time I played it. Each time I played it after that I liked it less and less. It's an okay system, but in general it's just a "meh" for me.

Mare Nostrum has to be better than that.

Cyclades is over rated and shallow. I really don't like how its auction mechanic works.

Cyclades is crap.

Cyclades suffers too much from a bash the leader thing that can lengthen a game to the point where it outstays its welcome.

Mare Nostrum's a classic.

I think Cyclades is a very good game, and I've enjoyed it each time I've played it. But Mare Nostrum is way more epic and just generally a more open design. So this is an easy one.
