I think I said something several months prior to the release of Civil War that I wasn't excited for it because these sort of hero v hero battles devolve the genre to little more than gang warfare.

And that's pretty much what happened.

Character was assassinated to justify protagonists hitting each other.

Lame

I will eventually get around to watching the Cap movies, including Civil War. But I'm not in a rush. Based on the synopsis by Mr. White, the Civil War movie is only about 1/10th as stupid as the massive comic book crossover event of the same name. In that storyline, some young heroes apparently get killed (as if anybody ever really dies in the Marvel Universe) while fighting a bad guy and there were some civilian casualties or whatever. Anyway, the U.S. Government and SHIELD decide that all the heroes need to register with the government and report to them as super-cops.

All sorts of shenanigans ensue. Spider-man reveals his secret identity, as he apparently no longer worries about his friends and family getting attacked by his many enemies. And, uh, he starts wearing a special costume designed by Iron Man with some extra gimmicks in it, even though it makes him look a bit like Doctor Octopus. Like in the movie, Cap acts all holier than thou and is generally a pretentious jackass. Meanwhile, Iron Man shakes hands with a semi-reformed neo-nazi villain for the press, to show that villains are also welcome to register and work for the government. Reed Richards builds a super-prison in the Negative Zone, and Hank Pym clones Thor because reasons. Ben Grimm refuses to take sides and moves to France. And, uh, I can't go on, because it really sucks to even contemplate Marvel's Civil War. It was stupid story that happened only because there are still comic fan chumps who buy every issue of these big event crossovers.

Me? Sure, but they're not "official" current-gen MCU films, are they? If so, the first two with Tobey McGuire were just as good as my "top 3".

Yeah, I think I rate the three Sam Raimi Spider-man films, as a whole, better than the MCU, as a whole.

Of the MCU films, my favorite has been Ant-Man and a lot of that was because of the Luis character...

But Spiderman 3......what a travesty, especially after 2 which is one of my top superhero movies of all time.

I think Marvel missed out on a golden, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with Civil War-- make two films and release them simultaneously. Just imagine the advertising: Choose your side! Iron Man: Civil War vs. Cap America: Civil War. Marvel Studios is such a box office juggernaut that they actually could have pulled it off. Sure, it would split the ticket sales and prevent either one setting a record, but they would have set a precedent that would last for decades.

You would have some duplication in the fight scenes, but with all the coverage they shoot it wouldn't be too hard to make them feel completely different. Even looking at the existing Civil War, you can easily see which scenes could divvied up so that you had two really cool 90 minute movies instead of one over-long, bloated 2.5 hour movie:
Iron Man: CW gets young Stark scene, Hulk-buster fight whoops, wrong movie. See how generic they've become?, more time with Rhodey, more time with Spidey.
Cap America: CW gets opening raid, Black Panther fight, more time with Bucky, more time with Ant-Man.

It just would've been so cool. I would've loved for them to spend more time fleshing out the philosophy of each "side." Show how neither one was fully right or wrong. Instead, we just got pixels punching each other.

Alien Covenant was so bad that I almost like Prometheus now.

I haven't seen Prometheus, but like most loved the first several Alien films. Reading a synopsis on Prometheus and these other Alien prequel films...is this what fans have asked for? Do we need to eventually know who created the xenomorphs? Can nothing be left a mystery to fill with our imaginations?
