Expanse books are much better than the show IMO. Show is fine but not special.

I really dig the blend of some politics with conspiracy, noir, and horror. It's like everything I love about sci-fi coming together and it doesn't feel messy or bloated. The characters are actually very likeable in the novels. The whole crew is great. Miller is fantastic.

I didn't realize that The Expanse season 2 was on until last night. My DirecTV box recorded it for me nonetheless, and I caught up with it. Episode 1 was kind of slow, but 2 and 3 got going again.

I like the show's cast, except for the casting for Holden and Amos. I don't hate them, but I pictured Holden as a square-jawed Space Captain type, and Amos a little older and rougher around the edges. The rest of the cast is top-notch.

Yes, 100%. Naomi's casting is perfect, Alex is fine, and Miller is solid. Fred Johnson is a little different than I pictured but fine as well. Avarsarala is great.

Bobby Draper I'm not convinced on and Holden I'm not a fan of. Amos doesn't look anything like I pictured him. I expected a hulking brute that looked much more rough.

Just finished the first season of The Expanse last night. Really loved it. I would say this show is as close to "hard" Sci-Fi as any television has ever been. But am I the only one who sees a striking similarity between the Miller character and this guy:

Should I read the book first?

I just watched the first episode of Legion. It was pretty good. I wonder if they'll be able to keep it up.

I'm not sure how I've managed to never hear anyone talk positively about Baskets before. This is a Zack Galifianakis FX comedy that is hysterical. The premise is he flunks out of clown school in France (he can't speak French) and comes back home poor and looking for work. He ends up being a rodeo clown. I haven't laughed out loud this much while watching a show in a long time.

GF and I watched the first two episodes of the Unfortunate Turn of Events show on Netflix. We had no previous experience with either the book or movie. It was mildly amusing until Neil Patrick Harris shows up, and after that it was moderately funny. He is outstanding as the main villain, but the pacing of the show is a bit slow and plot twists are sometimes telegraphed too far in advance of their revelation. I wouldn't mind watching more, but I also wouldn't go out of my way to watch it. The kids actors are good, but their characters are so blandly ideal. Patrick Warburton is an okay narrator.

Taboo. Freaking great. Tom Hardy is such a moody prick.

The woman playing his sister... actress named Oona Chaplin. I couldn't' remember where I'd seen her before... IMDB reminded me that she died at the Red Wedding.

Hinterland. Great. Richard Harrington is such a moody prick. Would be better with Ooona Chaplin in it though.

There's a small-scale space battle in S2E3 - short, brutal, deadly and scary as hell!
