Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× Talk abut Movies & TV here. Just tell us what you have been watching. Have hyper-academic discussions on visual semiotics. Whatever, it's all good.

My girls (7 and 10) and I really like A.N.T. Farm on Disney. It's about a group of gifted middle school kids who are put into a high school, but it's almost completely absurd in style, which is refreshing, and the humor is often clever and unexpected.

Doctor Who would be great for 9-14 year olds. The newer seasons with Stefan Moffat as showrunner and Matt Smith as the Doctor are a little scarier, but I can't wait for my 8-month-old boy to grow up so we can watch them together. OK, I can wait. I don't want the little dude to get any bigger. Why does he keep growing up? I keep telling him to stop.

Anyway. Chuck is fairly family friendly. It's action-filled but not graphically violent. Since it's spy related, of course there's some sexiness. Again, not too graphic, but girls in lingerie. So maybe 12-13 and up?

Regular Show on Cartoon Network is pretty funny. My wife doesn't like it much, and it kind of freaks out my 4-year-old niece. It's just kind of weird. And hipster-y, but makes fun of hipsters at the same time. I like it.

Primeval is another BBC show. I've only watched a couple of episodes, but it seemed good for kids. It's filled with dinosaurs, so yeah, kids are gonna go nuts for it.

Merlin: This is a very goofy take on King Arthur. But kind of charming at the same time. Magic is banned in the realm by King Uther Pendragon, but a young Merlin must ensure that Prince Arthur fulfills his destiny. Every single episode involves Merlin secretly using magic to save the day and almost (but not quite!) getting caught. It's a guilty pleasure of mine.

Just let them watch Ren and Stimpy...YOU BLOATED SACK OF PROTOPLASM!

I also agree with the Chuck recommendation. Some of the best lighthearted action on TV. Plus it's filled with nerd references and super hot chicks for Dad. Highly recommended.

I don't know how easy it is for you to access British TV but two kids shows that are also genuinely amusing for adults are Horrible Histories (a clever sketch show) and The legend of Dick and Dom (a comedy fantasy quest type thing)

Throw in my two cents: The Amazing World of Gumball is downright hysterical. My son loves it. Take the Simpsons, a crack like animation style, and replace everyone with animals and other weirdness and you got Gumball.

Superfly's post somewhere else here on Gleaming the Cube reminded me that the best kids show on TV at the moment is The Aquabats! Super Show!

This quote from show star/creator Christian Jacobs explains it all: "We're always trying to explain to adults why...why is this happening or why is that happening, whereas with kids they just accept it. 'There's five guys. This is what each of the five guys does. There are monsters. They're gonna try to fight them'. It's so simple."
