I have an old VHS copy of the original trilogy, but it's so hard to watch VHS these days. And I can't bring myself to purchase the DVD or Blu-Ray. I should just not care, but I do...

How much older? I don't think most kids give a damn whether they see a movie on Blu-Ray, DVD, or VHS. My niece is about 6 or 7 and she's been watching the same VHS movies her mom used to watch, tape-rub-marks and all.

He's already seen the original once with his Mom, apparently. I think she said he had to wait till he was 6 for Empire, and I tend to agree (he gets scared fairly easily). So yeah, maybe we'll just have to do the VHS copies until I run out of working VCRs.wadenels wrote:

Well, copyright issues aside, couldn't you at least attempt to get them transferred to DVD?

Really, I have the same ones. I only bought them for the unedited movie versions. How much are these selling for?
An 'acceptable' version of Episode IV runs for 19.98 + 2.98 shipping (Amazon). Outside of that the movie ranges from about 25 to 150.
Ebay lists it from 8.99 for 'acceptable' to 107.34 for 'excellent' condition.
If someone still wants the film, he can buy it for a reasonable price, but for whatever reason, the movies can now run on the high end. It's actually sort of weird.

It's a tribute to Lucas' marketing savvy that bitching about his product can become a marketable product itself, apparently with a lifespan to be measured in decades.
