I've been using Demonoid for years and did not know about iptorrents. I went to their site and they talk about being careful about inviting "cheaters". What's a cheater in this context?
With many open and public sites, there is no motivation to seed. Many people just hit it and quit it. IPT is invite only, and as a requirement of membership you must seed and maintain some sort of decent ratio. Now, you don't have to keep it at 1:1 to stay a member, but doing so has its perks.
My upload speed is pretty bad so I probably couldn't keep my ratio very high, so I've never tried to get into one of the private sites. I just use a Swedish-based VPN for about $7 a month.
