Stormseeker's heading west

This is a good news/bad news post.

First, the bad - I won't be able to attend Averypalooza. There's just no way that's happening. This is because of the good news.

My employer has seen fit to offer me a job at the headquarters in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This is a long way from home, but the position is awesome. I've got a unique skill set that makes me the perfect fit for this position. I'm incredibly stoked. It's a huge raise from my current salary and there's a relocation package being thrown in as well. There's no way I can not take this position. It's everything I've worked for and I'm in awe that I finally got recognized for my efforts.

So, I'll miss my east coast life and my friends here, but I'm not going that far away. 10 hours by car, 2ish by plane.

This is a new start and I couldn't be happier to be taking this on.

My parents live in Saginaw, so I'm out that way a couple times a year. There are a couple other Michigander FATties too. I know Jackwraith and Mikoyan both live in the Great Lakes State.

Silly me, I got all excited when I read "heading west," because I assumed that meant something more like KC or St. Louis. But no, it means Michigan. I guess everything is "west" when you live on the east coast.

Congrats Stormseeker. Sounds like an awesome opportunity. I'm sure you'll enjoy the Midwest. Gen Con is relatively close and there are a handful of Fatties that attend that (although I did a shitty job of actually meeting many last year).

He throws a meatball like this across the plate and none of you are taking a swing at it?

This place is going to hell in a handcart.

Party time with Superfly Pete! Awesomeness.

I'm hoping we can still do the WBC this year, Matt. I can't guarantee it, but I'm hopeful.

You still owe me a game of Incursion. You're not getting out of that.

I'll get you that game of Incursion, buddy. I've been itching to play it ever since that game where I made the worst tactical move in the history of tactics.

Yep, the Midwest is probably going to be a pleasant surprise. Affordable housing, relatively sane traffic, more breathing room in general. A lot of east coast folks went to Indiana University when I was there, and many of them stayed in the Midwest afterwards. And if you ever get to missing life in the big city, Chicago is just a four hour drive to the west. After spending an hour in traffic there, you will be happy to get back to Ann Arbor. I've only been there once, but I've always heard that it's a great place to live.

First of welcome to Michigan, greatest state of them all. It'll have you forgetting about wherever you came from in no time. Ann Arbor is a nice town despite the fact that everything gets better the further north you travel, there's plenty to enjoy about that area.

Secondly I am also shortly (Augustish) braving a move down south to your future neck of the woods, prolly less than an hour away as I'll be outside of Detroit. So yeah, people to play games with and such. Hit me up sometime.

Fantastic. See, this won't be as bad as my terrifying imagination is making it out to be.

That's right! You'll forget about Jersey while traversing 10 hour drives that would normally take two due to blizzard conditions! You'll be closer to Detroit, the grimiest city outside of Mexico City (or Houston...). In fact, you may even be subject to a carjacking!

Oh, the memories you'll make. :)

(Ann Arbor is beautiful. Just don't go to Detroit. Don't. Do. It.)
