I'm thinking about getting one for the house for the areas with hardwood floors. Does anyone have any experience with them? Any model suggestions?

Cheers
Jake

I have an iRobot Roomba, pet version. It's great. Don't bother with the fancy programmable stuff, just hit go. Well worth the price.

It vacuums your pet?

My grandma had a Roomba. It was pretty stupid. It just criss-crossed the floor randomly, missed bits of the room and then got caught under a bit of furniture. It is not like it will do the whole of your home moving from room to room. They are a good idea and great for people who would struggle to lug a hoover around but don't expect too much.

Thanks for the input all. My fiancee, who does the dry mopping anyways, is not digging on getting one. More sweeping for her then. lol.

Cheers

Consumer Reports tested them out:

Robotic vacuums

Think of these more as expensive novelties than practical appliances.

Pros:Do the grunge work while you relax. In uncluttered rooms, a robotic vacuum can fill in between regular vacuuming sessions.

Cons:They can be time-consuming to set up and run, and they tended to miss edges and corners in our tests. Some also tended to close doors behind them, locking themselves in a room.

If you dig Maximum Overdrive at all as a movie, you should totally get one of those new robotic lawn mowers. Omg, so terrifying.

I would put the gremlin face on the ront of the mower and have it play AC/DC tunes as it roamed the yard.

and you have to put a bunch of blood-stained kid-sized baseball hats strewn around the lawn too.

Some joker friend of my moms once put a kid's snowsuit and a bunch of balloons underneath this big snowbank in front of his house. The city snowblower came around and went through it sending all sorts of pieces of stuff all over his yard and he ran out of his house screaming, "BILLY!BILLY!!!!"

lol, the driver must have had a heart attack
