Robin Williams was one of my favorite comedians as a kid. Robin committed suicide today. He will be truly missed.

i was literally watching Mrs. Doubtfire just last night.

Very sad. So many great performances and memories over the years. We'll always have those.

I still remember him in the series premiere of Homicide. He was so good.

I sold him the Black Templar codex back in 2005. Came into my store, hat and glasses, two guys with him. I knew right away it was him. I think he was in town shooting something. My buddy Peter was about to flip out, but we just left him alone. I really wanted to holler "hey genie!" As he was leaving.

Welp, first George Carlin and now Williams. Next will be Bill Murray, he doesn't look well ;__;

I think my problem from a legacy standpoint is I only saw him in movies. I really did not like the film performances I saw with him. On the other hand, everyone I talk to says his stand up is excellent.

The great thing about the above video is that his act starts out scripted. . .
Warning: Spoiler!

He was one of the best live. It was like watching a man explode into a cocaine fuelled explosion, but it was hilarious. And likeable enough that his substance habits were mistaken for quirkiness, making him family friendly.

It's truly terrible news. I wish I could say I was shocked by the manner of his passing, but he has been battling his own inner demons for so many years, that it's sadly not surprising.

The man was too smart for his own good, and never could fit in despite his success.

I know I am likely alone in this, but as much as I enjoy his comedic wit, he could pull off drama well. One Hour Photo is still my fave role he played in. So ambiguously creepy. You never really know for sure if he was just a true psychopath, or just someone who cared too damn much and was horribly misunderstood. A fitting reflection of his personal life as seen from the outside.

Truly, a sad day.

I agree that for films he could be particularly great with drama. His movie career sure wasn't consistent, but most of the misses were things that tried to be more comedic or family oriented. I grew up watching him on Happy Days and Mork & Mindy, and remember many incredible ad libbed performances on comedy specials and Johnny Carson and Letterman and such. He had this crazy energy and ability to riff on things that was almost unmatched, really.

Fisher King is another great film that his performance elevated. Death to Smoochy, too.

He was great in stand-up and a great guest on talk shows - always watched his interviews because he was funny, intelligent, unpredictable. Will miss seeing him on TV, for sure.

It just dawned on me: Robin Williams starred in a movie What Dreams May Come. Williams' character dies and attempts to save his wife from her self imposed hell she created by committing suicide. Not a good movie, but just seems very ironic and prophetic right now. Personally, his early stand up, The Fisher King and Good Will Hunting stand out as his greatest work.

Now, the media feeding frenzy is starting. Truly sad.

Yeah. it's a good day to avoid CNN.

I forgot about Good Will Hunting. I want to rewatch the scene where he slams Jason Bourne into the wall saying that he will end him if he disrespects his wife again. Man, can that guy ever do some convincing drama.

I was going to mention One Hour Photo but got beaten to it

I never liked his comedies, but I did enjoy his few serious roles. One Hour Photo and Insomnia were good, and I even liked Moscow on the Hudson. His performance in Awakenings was remarkably restrained, as he played it completely straight and let De Niro steal every scene.
