Mario 2 is Doki Doki Panic with new sprites, that shit doesn't count either for or against.

The first Mario RPG was awesome. Then they started to get more and more into the timing your attacks and defense stuff and now it's at the point where if I pt the game down for a while I can't pick it back up because I don't have the timing down anymore and can't beat anyone without it. Especially the ones on DS.

I hate the stylus controls in Zelda for anything but the boomerang. They should let you use the d-pad and buttons if you want. And that temple 80 times was bullshit that made me quit before I finished.

I'm going to have to go with Zelda here. Mario has always been a great time waster, but it was never anything I looked forward to playing.

Talking about the new Mario "RPGs" for the DS, I played a bit more of the latest and I was reminded of a recent review that argued these games aren't RPGs anymore, and in a way it's true... All the leveling up seems pretty much pointless. It's pretty much a story based game (and totally linear, btw) where you advance by completing arcade mini fights (or not so mini in the case of the boss fights).

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that... it's just that Zelda games do usually feel much more like an open adventure with lots of free exploration, especially the older 2D ones and the ones with Toon Link... (Incidentally, he's my favorite Super Smash Bros. character... the down strike is excellent)

Hopefully we are talking about Castlevania vs. Metroid which would be the dome to end all domes. Castlevania was absolutely my favorite game on my Nintendo with Metroid being a close second. But I'll withhold all other comment to see what happens.

I never played any of the Zelda games. The first one seemed interesting but I never got it... after that I was pretty "meh" to buying that series. But SMB Wii is one of the few games remaining that I would instantly "must buy" for the Wii. It's just an iconic, beloved series.
