Pricing is tricky on this one. You can hack one of these awfully easily (but what about tournament play? Oh, that's right, I don't give a damn about tournament play) with existing pieces from Wiz Kids and a sheet of ink-jet paper. Maybe a sleeve. Cheap enough to avoid 3-D printer knock-offs, at least for the moment, but with a 3-D printer you could print them in different colors to make matching factions.

Granted, you're paying for the intellectual content when you buy this kind of thing, not the physical materials. But alas, the intellectual content is free for the taking, so FFG has to price these at a level where owning the real thing is worth the cost.

MSRP is $9.95, online they'll be $5.99. Six bucks plus a bit of shipping to get the official cards and monocolor plastic figurine. Not awful. But I think you'll still see a lot of gray-market stuff going on.

Seriously? You're pulling out the "But there's so little raw materials in there...Why is it so expensive?" argument?

MSRPs are: $9.95, $12.95 or $19.95 depending on the pack.

No, I'm seeing a gumball machine figure and a handful of cards in a box.

Wasn't this about what you got with the Tannhauser expansions except that the mini was at least painted? Oh, and those didn't sell well, did they...

Tannhauser was right about the same price - $9.95, $12.95 and $19.95 if I recall correctly, lesser quality sculpt though painted to not look bad, no Lucas/Disney license surcharge, a booklet and a punch board. Later ones included a dozen cards.

Tannhauser is a pretty weak comparison though...An attempt at a game resurrection that went through two publishers and a rules re-write. Compared to a game based off a proven system (Isn't Descent the top selling boardgame from FFG?) with a license that gives people raging nerdgasims. I don't think FFG is thinking too hard about what price to put these packs for in their Holiday Sale.

If I do get into this game though, it's going to be an online purchase only game. I like to support my game store when I can, but these games with (optional) subscription purchases are pricing me out of them.

2014 or 2015?

I don't think any of the Star Wars LCG/X Wing stuff was in the last holiday sale. In general , they seem to be running much tighter inventories than they used to, which means less stuff for their annual Black Friday blowout sale. And since this stuff doesn't even launch til sometime next year, I'd be surprised to see any of it even for the 2015 saler. And that only happens if it doesn't sell.

I do wonder though how many more times they can go back to the Star Wars well as far as expandable game systems. LCG, X Wing, Imperial Assualt and the capital ship game system seems like its pushing it.

Here's the grand irony of the holiday sale:
-Games with supposed played out themes: Lovecraft, Star Wars, Tolkien, Terronith
-Games that show up in the holiday (i.e. slow selling games): Not those themes

So in other words, I think they'll be able to go back to the SW well many, many more times. Not all are going to be the subscription purchases, but they'll go back. To be honest though, I'm not sure how well the SW:LCG is doing.

The Star Wars LCG actually was one of the more interesting ones I thought. Liked it the few times I played it.

Wut? Most are 8.95.

I think the Descent lieutenant model was a success so they use it on SWIA.

I was going off list price on them on Amazon. Which was a rookie mistake.

And how's that any different than the 14.99 X-Wing ships? Oh right, those are painted. Makes all the difference.
