And Khan is the best Trek film. This isn't even open for discussion. IV is fun but silly, and VIII is great action porn but not in the same league as Khan.

Hate to break it to ya', sir, but Star Trek the show was "fun but silly." Even when it tried to be serious, it was so ham-fisted as to be almost laughable. Yes, Scotty talking into the mouse and Spock's overuse of the word "hell" threatened to tak the movie into campy territory, but on the whole, it's a jaunty sci-fi trip which as far as I'm concerned is the closest any of the films got to capturing the spirit of the TV show.

The trailer made the film look bloated and cliched. Pearl Harbor or Armageddon or something.

Yeah, it looks a little Michael Bay-ish doesn't it? Or, like Barnes said about Watchmen, a little too STAR TREK XTREME IN YO' FUCKIN' FACE.

Mutant Chronicles, anyone?

Eh. It looked like it wasn't going to get picked up, so I watched it on the internet. I can't recommend it to fans of the game, or fans of action movies, or, well, anyone really. It was made on less than a shoestring budget, like $100k or something. Normally, I'd admire that, but the movie is just kinda' boring and shitty overall.

No, the name is not a coincidence, it is loosely (And I mean loosely) based on the games. But, if they changed the names of a few characters, even fans of the game would never know it.

I've been watching the new Clone Wars animated series with my kids and it's pretty doggone good considering the target audience. It's reestablished my faith in the Star Wars saga again.

The trick is to not watch any of the George Lucas stuff in the meantime. Since when did they give creative control to THAT guy for Star Wars?

Sag.

I asked my wife, "Is it wrong for me to like the Clone Wars series more than the actual movie its based upon?"

She said, "Of course not."

MARITAL VALIDATION FOR THE WIN.

Noah also likes it, too.

April 24th... or so they say.

So is the naming of the Mutant Chronicles film just coincidence? Hadn't heard of it before.

TWO WORDS: DON'T BOTHER.

Netflix it.

They fucked up the canon THAT badly.

If you're expecting the Dark Apostles, forget it. Not in the movie.

It's only LOOSELY based on the game it gets its name from.

If I remember correctly, the first attempt at making the movie was closer to the game than the movie that actually came out. Sucks.

Nope. The production company that made it had a shoestring budget, and it shows.

I could put up with the shoestring budget, and its almost complete ignorance of the source material if it was at all entertaining to watch. It isn't.

It has that "we're trying to do a so bad it's good movie on purpose" stink all over it.

I was already excited for this film, and it is rumored to appeal to both fans as well as mainstream audience.

The early reviews are in, and are extremely positive:

I thought Mutant Chronicles already came out? Like last year? I'm pretty sure EW had a review of it ages ago.

That's pathetic! I could forgive the low budget if they gave me Ezo on the big screen. What a crock of shit!

Wasn't The Rock tied to this project at one time? Geez, how were they going to afford him in the first place?

They should have done it with Ray Harryhausen-style stop motion. That would've been awesome.

Came out in Europe first (it's already on DVD over there), and it's coming out here.

I guess they thought John Malkovich could double time as himself and the Rock.

I can't believe Sean Pertwee and Ron Perlman actually signed up for this shite.

Definitely looking forward to seeing this. Will love seeing what Tarentino does with a WWII theme.

As for Mutant Chronicles. I saw it last year, and it was OK. Not much in the way of sticking with the storyline as we know, but it was "watchable" on it's own. Not an A+, more of a C+ movie. But had some decent action going on.

Really, that's what I'm looking for. If it's as good as Starship Troopers, I'll be happy!

Granted, ST didn't entirely stick to the story (WHERE ARE THE APES!?!?!), it was more true to the book than the MC dreck.
