On another note, I didn't know John Millius directed Red Dawn. No wonder I liked it.

Red Dawn is definately a creature of the times. It worked because it matched the paranoia of the mid-80's. That paranoia is not the same as the paranoia now. We're not so much worried about the Russians or Chinese invading as some folks with turbans blowing stuff up......

Hopefully it doesn't suck.

This hope is about as realistic as the premise of the original film. How hard is it to come up with something new that's as dumb as Red Dawn? What are they going to do next, Toy Soldiers?

Follow the WATCHMEN model and replace all the political subtexts with bone-crunching violence and obvious soundtrack cues. Like put "99 Red Balloons" in there.

Or perhaps some of the cast of TWILIGHT and other teen films could be called in to pout and sulk about the Red Menace. The rallying cry could be "those commie bastards want to take our iPhones away!"

The Wolverines will likely be organized via a Facebook page or Twitter.

Folks, there's simply no possible way this will be any good. It's a terrible idea from the ground up.

RED DAWN is a pretty bad film on points. But it's a charming relic of its time, and it's got huge nostalgia value for people in my age range. It's trash, but it's fun trash. And the most critical element of that is the stupid mid-80s jingoism.

What's next, a remake of AMERIKA?

Say what? How the hell would they get here? Where would they even get an army large enough to attempt a full-scale invasion of the US? That shit didn't even make much sense when it was the Russians.

Or are you talking about doing a terrorism movie? If that's the case, it might make a little more sense, but then it won't be Red Dawn. The word "red" will look pretty out of place, first of all, and the whole guerilla-style freedom fighter thing would be pretty much impossible.

The one thing that still strikes terror and fear in the hearts of Americans is sex, particulary homosexuality. Commie-phobes may be a dying breed but homophobes still run rampant.

So if they called it PINK DAWN, it may have some of the same resonances in the heartland.

You mean, of course, to say Purple Dawn.

Fuck it, RAINBOW DAWN. That will scare the shit out of a lot of Americans.
